Victor Ortiz Issues Chilling Warning to Logan Paul: “I Hit Like a Heavyweight”
The buzz around Logan Paul’s next move in the boxing world continues to swirl, with an unexpected challenge emerging from none other than former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz. Known as “Vicious” for his relentless style, Ortiz has now set his sights on Paul, even as the YouTube sensation-turned-wrestler focuses on his flourishing WWE career. Ortiz, who once trained with Logan Paul in preparation for Paul’s exhibition match against Floyd Mayweather in 2021, is now openly challenging “The Maverick” to step into the ring with him.
Victor Ortiz: A New Challenge for Logan Paul
Victor Ortiz, a battle-hardened veteran of the sport, is no stranger to the bright lights of high-profile boxing matches. Despite a career that has seen its ups and downs, including a brutal knockout loss to Floyd Mayweather in 2011, Ortiz remains confident in his abilities, even as he prepares to face Argentina’s Rodrigo Damian Coria in Mexico City. However, it’s not Coria who is on Ortiz’s mind—it’s Logan Paul.
During a recent interview with DJ Vlad, Ortiz did not mince words when discussing his desire to fight Logan Paul. “Yeah, I would,” Ortiz said when asked if he was open to a match with Paul. The weight difference? Ortiz brushed it aside like it was nothing. “It doesn’t matter,” he stated, exuding the confidence of a man who believes his power transcends weight classes.
When asked about whether he wanted to fight Logan as well, Ortiz said, “Yeah, I would… [and Logan’s heavier weight class] doesn’t matter.”
Floyd Mayweather, stating, “It’s a whole different animal. It’s a different game. The way I fight is very different from [the] Floyd Mayweather type.” Even though Logan Paul towers over Ortiz in terms of sheer size, Ortiz Jr. felt he could easily counter that with his power.
“I hit like a heavyweight,” Ortiz said, later adding, “I just know that I’m a lot for some of those boys to handle.”
“I Hit Like a Heavyweight”
Ortiz went further, sending a chilling warning to Paul, claiming, “I hit like a heavyweight.” It’s a bold statement from a fighter who has shared the ring with some of the best, and Ortiz is clearly unfazed by Logan Paul’s size advantage. “I just know that I’m a lot for some of those boys to handle,” Ortiz added, suggesting that Paul, despite his athleticism and size, would struggle to cope with his power.
While Ortiz is gearing up for his bout with Coria, his focus seems to be shifting towards bigger opportunities, and Logan Paul is at the top of his list. The challenge, however, comes at a time when Ortiz’s career has been relatively quiet, with his last fight being a victory over journeyman Todd Manuel in May 2022. Despite the lull, Ortiz’s confidence remains unshaken, particularly when it comes to a potential clash with Paul.
Ortiz recalled, “He was so composed and relaxed.”
Ortiz Reflects on Training with Logan Paul
Interestingly, Ortiz’s challenge to Logan Paul is rooted in mutual respect forged during their time training together. Before Logan Paul’s exhibition bout against Floyd Mayweather, Ortiz played a significant role in helping the YouTube star prepare. What Ortiz witnessed during that time left a lasting impression.
In an interview with MMAFighting, Ortiz recalled a particular sparring session where Paul delivered a knockout that stunned everyone in the gym, including Ortiz himself. “He was so composed and relaxed,” Ortiz remembered, noting how Paul’s reach and timing were executed to perfection. “He used his reach perfect—took a little step, hook down the middle, sleep. Night-night,” Ortiz recounted, joking that Paul’s only mistake was not reading his opponent a bedtime story.
Ortiz’s praise for Paul’s abilities highlights the YouTuber’s potential in the ring, but it also underscores Ortiz’s belief that, despite Paul’s skills, he would ultimately have the upper hand in a fight between them.
Will Logan Paul Take the Challenge?
With Ortiz publicly calling him out, the ball is now in Logan Paul’s court. However, given Paul’s current focus on his WWE career and his sporadic appearances in the boxing ring, it’s uncertain whether he will accept the challenge. Paul has already proven himself capable of going the distance against Mayweather, but a fight against Ortiz would present an entirely different challenge—one that Paul may not be eager to face.
As Ortiz prepares for his upcoming bout in Mexico, the boxing world will be watching to see if Paul responds to the challenge. Will “The Maverick” step up to face “Vicious” Ortiz, or will this be another chapter in the long list of potential matches that never materialized? Only time will tell.
