Victor Ortiz’s Return to the Ring: Fans Slam Boxer’s Physique and Performance in Mayweather vs. Gotti III Rematch Undercard

In a much-anticipated comeback, former welterweight champion Victor Ortiz stepped into the ring after a two-year hiatus, facing off against Rodrigo Damian Coria on the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather vs. John Gotti III rematch. However, instead of reigniting the spark that once made him a formidable force in the boxing world, Ortiz delivered a performance that left fans disillusioned and disappointed.

A Lackluster Return for Victor Ortiz

Victor Ortiz, now 37, attempted to revive his once fearsome in-ring persona, known for its aggression and relentless pressure. But what unfolded in the ring was far from the explosive displays that fans had come to expect from the former champion. Ortiz seemed to struggle from the outset, with the fight lacking the excitement and intensity that had once defined his career.

As the fight began, Ortiz took a cautious approach, trying to find his rhythm and pace. Meanwhile, Coria, the younger and seemingly more energetic fighter, peppered Ortiz with jabs, though neither man’s punches carried much weight. By the second round, Ortiz managed to land some body shots and combinations, but Coria’s quick jabs kept him at bay. Ortiz’s once-legendary ferocity appeared to have waned, as he struggled to match Coria’s speed and agility.

Fan Discontent Boils Over

The disappointment among fans was palpable. Social media erupted with criticism, as viewers expressed their frustration with Ortiz’s performance. “Victor Ortiz in the ring looking like a loaf of bread,” one fan harshly commented, criticizing Ortiz’s physical condition. Another fan wasn’t shy about voicing their disdain, bluntly stating, “Victor Ortiz fat and terrible.”

The lack of power behind Ortiz’s punches was another sore point for fans who had hoped to see the fighter reclaim his former glory. “Ain’t nobody watching this whack a** shit,” wrote another disenchanted viewer, highlighting the underwhelming nature of the bout.

Another user  announced, “Ain’t nobody watching this whack a** shit.”

They noted, “Yanks paid $50 for this lmaoooo😭.”

The comment read, “Victor Ortiz having a sparring match wtf goin on rn.”

The Price of Disappointment

For those who had paid $50 to watch the fight, the disappointment was even more acute. “Yanks paid $50 for this lmaoooo😭,” one fan tweeted, summing up the frustration of many who felt they had wasted their money on a lackluster event.

In the final rounds, both fighters appeared to show a bit more urgency, but by then, the damage to Ortiz’s reputation had already been done. His struggle with stamina was evident, and instead of the explosive final rounds that fans had hoped for, Ortiz seemed to be saving what little energy he had left, barely managing to keep up with Coria’s pace.

Ortiz Criticized for Lack of Effort

The tepid performance drew further comparisons, with one fan likening the match to a sparring session. “Victor Ortiz having a sparring match wtf goin on rn,” the fan commented, underscoring the lack of intensity that had turned the fight into a mere exhibition rather than a competitive bout.

Despite the fight being close on the scorecards, the overall lack of excitement left fans feeling cheated. Ortiz, once a dominant force in the welterweight division, now seemed a shadow of his former self, raising questions about whether his time in the sport had come to an end.

Thombson’s Note:

Victor Ortiz’s return to the ring was a stark reminder of the unforgiving nature of time and inactivity in professional boxing. Once known for his power and relentless aggression, Ortiz’s performance against Coria was a sobering display that left fans yearning for the fighter he once was. As Ortiz contemplates his future, it remains to be seen whether he can reignite the fire that once made him a champion or if this lackluster performance marks the beginning of the end for the aging boxer.
