Goodbye hands. Whether it’s fight promoters, Mad Max-level rules, or digital Ponzi business models, sports can’t escape its ridiculous ways. But, every once in a while, someone pulls something beautiful out of the swamp—a selfless act, a clever strategy, or a moment worth sharing. I look forward to finding and celebrating them here every week. (Come on, boxing, three times a week isn’t too much to ask!) Have an idea or trick? Please send it to me and I’ll be sure to post the steering wheel if it’s used.
The art of anger
Ryan Garcia accomplished the impossible on Saturday, and it wasn’t just his stunning victory over Devin Haney at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Somehow, before the opening bell, after six to eight weeks of putting on the pretty boy, psychological branding, and low-level dirty work, Garcia managed to pull off the 360-degree shop rotation during the competition. .
Look, I don’t know a single boxer who supports Garcia vs. Haney, I apologize for not including a 14-year-old girl from Calabasas and an Instagram male model interested in boxing. You can appreciate Garcia’s arm speed, and … well, I’d rate his arm speed very high. But his chaotic promotions, irresponsible weight loss, and apparently sick, have turned him into a dancing meme on TikTok – simple and relatable.
Until he turns Honey.
When Garcia caught his opponent, the Barclays Center crowd erupted into a roar, erupting and bubbling – you could almost hear the abandoned tribal allegiances, the lizard brains of the boxing fans who embrace the new and the traditional. Dakota Linger pinned Kurt Scoby in Atlanta on Friday, before Haney Garcia carded and defeated David Jimenez. John Ramirez was less likely to experience this. We are all human. One of us has a bad boss, an arrogant teacher, or a bully on the playground. At one point, the sand was all in our faces. In the end, we all want to see Goliath fight. Even David was a bit silly.

Nothing is clean in boxing. Choose an appropriate topic – weight loss, steroids, CTE, boxers’ financial failure, widespread corruption, corrupt promotional power structures, corporal punishment and substance abuse, health psychology, and domestic violence issues throughout the sport. This is just the tip of the dirty iceberg.
That’s why when a new threat hits the sport, it’s hard to arouse more concern or anger. In this case, we are talking about Saudi Arabia and the Chairman of the Supreme Court, Turki Alalshikh.
In recent times, Arashih has been hailed as a savior by many promoters, boxers, and even commentators, often described as a benefactor, leader, dynamo, and even new style of boxing. While it’s true that Alashik’s influence brought new attention to the sport, provided fighters with high pay, and gave fans good cards, his introduction was… bad. Saudi Arabia has poured a lot of money into international sports teams in recent years, and while there may be a dark agenda behind it, people will admire you and roll their eyes as you fatten up. their money cows.
Actually, I’m really confused about it. This is the “trailer” for the heavyweight boxing match between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury on May 18th. It is 2 minutes 42 seconds long and the content is smart and exciting. It’s rare to see something so cool, so exciting, so exciting in boxing that isn’t so organic and so unexpected. Unfortunately, this creative genius can, at least to some extent, defeat Alashik and his team.
I (of course) have strong opinions about all of this, but I’ll just say it and leave it at that: 1) If you don’t know the fate of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, take five minutes to reading this article 2) I’m happy to see someone today creating interest in boxing through fun and creative promotions. Now hopefully someone else will pick up the stick and run with it. 3. In short…
I still love stupid, bad guys, old heads, no fight promotion. Thank you Bernard Hopkins and Antonio Tarver.
