Evening promise
Matchroom on Wednesday confirmed the next steps for Sabriel Mathias, one of the sport’s most exciting fighters and new signings.
The 32-year-old puncher, who will be making his first fight since signing with Eddie Hearn, will return to his homeland to fight in Puerto Rico for the first time in nearly five years, taking on Australia on June 15 at the Coliseo Juan Aubin Cruz in Manati. It turns out. Introducing Liam Palo All 20 of Mattias’ wins are still a long way off, but his only blemish was a 10-round decision loss to Petros Ananyan. In a stacked division, Mathias may be the most explosive of them all. Elsewhere on Wednesday, The Week headed to central London for lunch with Frank Warren to catch up on all things Queensberry. First, it was revealed that the scheduled fight between Anthony Yarde and Joshua Bouatsi had been delayed because the two sides had not yet agreed to a split in purses. Warren suggested the fairest course of action would be to split the pair evenly in a pay-per-view fight, but Team Yard is understood to want a flat fee. I’m waiting for news on this.
Bam vs Estrada
Then Big Frank announced on Thursday that a press conference will be held in London on April 15 to announce participants for the June 1 5v5 Matchroom vs. Queensbury event. All parties are doing their best to keep things quiet, and Warren is certain to reveal nothing about her nomination during Wednesday’s lunch. Also confirmed on Thursday was what could be one of the best games of the year. Juan Francisco Estrada will face Jesse Bama Rodriguez for the WBC super flyweight title on June 29 in Phoenix. Rodriguez is coming off an impressive win over Sonny Edwards in December and is hoping to add Mexican great Estrada to his scalp list, which also includes Carlos Cuadras and Srisaket So Rungvisai. However, the 33-year-old Estrada is recognized by BN as the man in his division and has been undefeated for over six years, defeating Roma’s “Chocolatito” Gonzalez twice in his last three fights.
“I am very happy to announce my return against ‘Bam’ Rodriguez,” Estrada said. “After our last win against Chocolatito, we were able to get plenty of rest, spend some quality time with our family and kids, and heal the injuries that we were struggling with.”

Good Friday
When Tim Tzu and Sebastian Fundora advanced in Las Vegas, a little-known Errol Spence Jr. showed up and revealed that he was looking for a winner. In London, the final press conference before Easter Sunday’s big show was held at the O2 Arena, where Ben Whittaker was targeted by the intruders. Fellow light heavyweight Ezra Arenyeka, a Nigerian based in Cecile, decided to set up a match between the two.
“You’re an Olympic athlete competing against a guy no one knows,” Arenieka said. “12 fights and 10 KOs,” Whittaker replied, “but who did he fight?” You can come in after Leon Willings is finished. Indeed, it was a busy day for Whittaker. Whittaker then turned to Sky Sports commentator Andy Clarke. The light heavyweight was angered by the fact that Clarke claimed that antics such as hitting his opponent on the head were “disrespectful”.
“No, that’s not rude,” Whittaker told Clark on the livestream. “That’s a skill.”
Man with a van
At the press conference, no one knew that the show was about to be compromised by East London thieves who tried to steal one of Mike Goodall’s Ringcraft vans. Mr Goodall, who plans and arranges everything from rings, backdrops and sound systems for boxing events in the UK and abroad, asked for more information on Twitter. On Saturday, he posted a photo of the van with the caption: “This Sprinter identical to the one stolen from the car park of the Canning Town Hotel in the London area in the early hours of 30/03/24…Half of Sunday’s boxing rings… It’s in. “Nights Sky Boxing Show Return Reward…Please Tweet Again.” In America, Tszyu and Fundora clashed in one of the bloodiest battles in living memory after inflicting a severe wound on the head of an Australian. Replacement underdog Fundora used his height and reach to turn the 154-pound division upside down with an impressive split decision win in Las Vegas. As promised, Spence jumped straight into the ring to challenge the new champion, but he might have to wait in line, and more on that later this week.
No news is bad news
As part of the fun at the O2 Arena on Easter Sunday, there was an announcement in the ring about what could be a defining moment for the British super-lightweight division. Of course, we all wonder what the situation is between Adam Azim and Dalton Smith after both the British Boxing Board of Control and the European Boxing Federation decided to order a match between Adam Azim and Dalton Smith. Still waiting for news about what will happen. But on Sunday, the boxer brought Azim to another big name in Britain at 140 pounds, Harlem Eubank. This also meant that both British and Irish boxing legends Chris Eubank and Barry McGuigan had their say as the boxers began to build up an exciting bout between Azim and Eubank. The only problem was the lack of combat. There was no date, no venue, and no confirmation that the two would fight next. It just seemed like a tactic to stop the Azim vs. Smith match. In fact, Sky Sports legend Andy Scott once asked if he could come to the table to negotiate terms. Boxers would look really stupid if this fight didn’t happen now.
April Fools Day
Joseph Parker, who made lockdown famous with a series of memorable comedy videos, has tackled lockdown again with a video camera and released one of the best call-out videos of all time. This was directed at Dillian Whyte, whom Parker lost on points in 2018. The in-form New Zealander decided the best way to entice Whyte into a rematch was to film a music video for Take That’s Back for Good, which included photos of the Londoner in knickers. It was included as a compliment. Then, on April 1, it was confirmed that the WBO had officially ordered Sebastian Fundora to defend his title against challenger Terence Crawford, rather than Errol Spence. According to reports, the two sides need to reach an agreement within 20 days, or else they will have to settle on a price offer. Crawford, who has been out of action since defeating Spence last July, secured his spot by moving up from welterweight to champion. The Omaha ace will compete for world titles in four weight classes.
“I’m 58 years old, so what?”
After weeks of expressing his concerns about his apparent comeback, Mike Tyson hit back at boxers who criticized his July 20 bout with Jake Paul via Reuters. The event will continue to be held at the vast AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. “I’m 58 years old, so what?” the 57-year-old said. “You get billions of views just talking about fighting with someone.” Everyone is jealous, even most athletes, which is great. I don’t think he made a million in his heyday, dude. What do you think? We can’t sell out the arena. Who can fill an 80,000-seat stage at the age of 58? Why would he want to fight me and not anyone else? Everyone wants to fight him. But if he fights them, only those who like him will come. “The other boys and their parents couldn’t even take care of them.” That just keeps it real. It’s too boring for kids to watch, it’s like watching grass grow. ” Tyson’s rant comes just days after it was revealed he must undergo brain and heart scans before being allowed to return home.
