Steve Claggett’s Gym and Coach: Behind the Scenes of His Journey to Greatness

In the lead-up to his monumental showdown against Teofimo Lopez, Canadian boxer Steve Claggett finds himself at a pivotal moment in his career. With the fight scheduled for June 29th at the James L. Knight Center in Miami Beach, Florida, and broadcast live on ESPN+, Claggett aims to defy the odds and seize his first major title opportunity against the formidable ‘The Takeover’ Lopez, who holds the WBO super lightweight and Ring Magazine titles.

Claggett’s Training Regimen: Insights into His Gym and Coach

Hailing from Calgary, Alberta, Steve Claggett prepares for his clash at the Underdog Boxing Gym in Montreal, Quebec. Under the mentorship of head coach Mike Moffa, Claggett has undergone a transformative journey marked by dedication and strategic training.

Mike Moffa, a seasoned boxing coach with a rich background, has been pivotal in Claggett’s career progression. Initially trained under the legendary Dave Campanile, Moffa honed his skills and transitioned into coaching after retiring from professional boxing at a young age. His tenure at the Underdog Gym since 2008 has been instrumental in shaping promising boxers, including Claggett.

“I contacted Mathieu Germain’s trainer, Mike [Moffa], and told him: ‘What you showed him against me, I want you to teach me how to do it’”, said Claggett. Since the day ‘The Dragon’ found the right trainer, he hasn’t lost a single fight, boasting a eight fight win streak—a first for Claggett. “He’s talented, athletic… for me, it’s just that he didn’t learn the right technique and movements. ‘Is it too late,’ at 34 years old? No, it’s not too late because every month, he adds little things that I teach him,” Moffa added as he praised his protégé.
