Shakur Stevenson and Tim Bradley Jr.: Clash of Opinions Sparks Controversy

In the world of boxing punditry, opinions can be as fast and fierce as the punches thrown in the ring. Shakur Stevenson recently found himself at the center of a heated debate ignited by none other than Tim Bradley Jr., whose flip-flopping remarks have left the young boxer scratching his head in bewilderment.

The Conflicting Views

Tim Bradley Jr., known for his candid commentary, initially questioned Stevenson’s fighting spirit following lackluster performances against Edwin De Los Santos and Artem Harutyunyan. Bradley suggested that Stevenson’s hesitation in the ring could be exploited by aggressive opponents like Gervonta Davis, a stance that didn’t sit well with Stevenson.

However, in a surprising turn of events, a recent clip surfaced where Bradley reversed his stance, praising Stevenson’s potential to dominate in the ring against top contenders like Davis and William Zepeda. This sudden shift in opinion from criticism to acclaim left Stevenson perplexed, prompting him to mockingly tweet, “This guy is confusing me cmon milk dud pick a side lol.”

“When he fought against [Jamel] Herring [or] when he fought against Oscar Valdez, I mean there were spectacular performances,” began Tim Bradley Jr. “So, if Shakur gets in a ring with Zepeda or gets in the ring with Tank, or any of these other top guys out there, he’s going to perform,” he continued.

The Villain Persona?

Adding fuel to the fire, Bradley Jr. speculated that Stevenson’s reactions to criticism indicate a desire to embrace a villainous persona in the sport. According to Bradley, Stevenson closely monitors social media and reacts strongly to any form of critique, aiming perhaps to position himself as boxing’s next polarizing figure.

“And he’s going to make all these guys look silly,” Bradley Jr. added, boasting of Shakur’s abilities. Undoubtedly, this left Shakur Stevenson at his wit’s end. So, he wrote, “This guy is confusing me cmon milk dud pick a side lol.”

Analyzing Stevenson’s Performance

Stevenson, defending his style after criticism of a “boring” fight against Harutyunyan, emphasized his technical prowess and dismissed detractors. Meanwhile, Bradley Jr. suggested that Stevenson’s sensitivity to criticism stems from his ambition to carve out a provocative image in boxing, akin to a modern-day villain challenging the status quo.

“The kid is heavy on social media. He watches videos and everything that we put up. So, he’s constantly seeing who’s talking about him,” said Bradley Jr.

Future Prospects

Despite the verbal sparring between Stevenson and Bradley Jr., the potential bout between Stevenson and Davis continues to intrigue fans and analysts alike. With both fighters showcasing impressive skills in their respective matches, speculation mounts over when and if this high-stakes matchup will materialize.

“He feels if you’re with me, you’re with me, you can’t give any criticism. Shakur is trying to become the biggest villain in the sport. I think he’s really just coming at everybody because he wants to be the biggest villain in the sport,” added Bradley Jr. who has been branded “milk dud” by Stevenson given the former’s takes on the boxer.
