However, Oscar De La Hoya, in a surprising turn of events, has shifted the spotlight to a new contender: Devin Haney.
Davis, also known as Abdul Wahid after his conversion to Islam, proclaimed himself as boxing’s new face after defeating Ryan Garcia. Similarly, Crawford made bold claims following his WBO Super-Lightweight title defense against Dierry Jean. Yet, De La Hoya believes that Haney’s unwavering focus and dedication set him apart from the rest.
In a recent interview with FightHype, De La Hoya praised Haney’s mentor, Bill Haney, for instilling discipline and hunger in the young boxer. Drawing parallels between Haney and Canelo Alvarez, De La Hoya highlighted Haney’s lifelong commitment to the sport.
“Devin, he’s in a league of his own, basically,” De La Hoya remarked. “Just the way he’s focused. He literally breathes, eats, and sleeps boxing. Which is what you’re supposed to do at this level.”

“The way he built his career, people and kids look up to him. So, that’s what makes him the face of boxing. Would you agree with that?” A reporter asked Oscar De La Hoya.
“Since he was a kid, right? And he was brought up by a good man. That’s what I respect about Bill. I’ve spent a lot of time with him at a home in Vegas, on the plane. And I respect that. He keeps him in line and he keeps him focused and hungry,” said De La Hoya.
