Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis Calls Out Brian Norman Jr. as $2.2M Demand Stalls Negotiations: A Harsh Reality Check for Both Camps

Philadelphia, PA – The path to boxing greatness is rarely smooth, a lesson Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis is learning firsthand as negotiations for a pivotal fight against Brian Norman Jr. reach an impasse. With his sights set on becoming the next undisputed welterweight champion, Ennis has encountered an unexpected hurdle: a steep $2.2 million demand from Norman Jr. that has brought talks to a standstill.

Jaron Ennis, the 27-year-old phenom from Philadelphia, has rapidly risen through the ranks, recently defending his IBF title with a unanimous victory over David Avanesyan on July 13. His next target, Brian Norman Jr., similarly ascended to ‘full champion’ status after Terence Crawford vacated his titles, making this showdown a critical step for both fighters.

However, negotiations have hit a snag over financial terms. Norman Jr., fresh off a knockout win against Giovani Santillan on the Emanuel Navarrete–Denys Berinchyk card in May, is reportedly unsatisfied with the purse offered for the fight. According to sources close to the situation, the WBO champion’s camp initially received an offer of $1.7 million, which they rejected, pushing instead for a $2.2 million payout.

This demand has left Ennis perplexed and frustrated. “I don’t know if they’re looking for a retirement check or what,” Ennis remarked during an interview with YSM Sports Media. “But if you don’t think I’m a big dog, why would you turn down your biggest payday multiple times? C’mon!”

Urging him to sign the ‘dotted line’, ‘Boots’ Ennis called out Norman Jr., “Make this fight happen. I want the fight. Let’s make it happen. Let’s make it happen right now.” Speaking with YSM Sports Media.

Ennis’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has echoed his fighter’s sentiments, expressing disappointment with the stalled negotiations. Hearn revealed that the initial offer to Norman Jr.’s team was already generous, exceeding $1 million. When that was turned down, two subsequent offers were made, each increasing the purse by an additional $250,000. Yet, Norman Jr.’s camp remains firm in their demand for $2.2 million.

For Ennis, the stakes are clear. “I’m here for legacy,” he declared. “I’m taking over this weight division, and I want that fight. Let’s make it happen right now.” His frustration is palpable as he urges Norman Jr. to sign the contract and stop wasting time with social media posturing.

The tension between the two camps is underscored by comments from Brian Norman Sr., who justified their position by pointing to the disparity in earnings. He claimed that the initial offer was less than a third of what Ennis earned in his fight against Avanesyan, making their demand for a higher purse reasonable.

But Hearn sees it differently, questioning whether Norman Jr. is genuinely interested in the fight or simply ‘clout chasing.’ The inconsistency in Norman Jr.’s stance has left Hearn and Ennis wondering if their opponent is more focused on leveraging his newfound title than on stepping into the ring with one of the division’s most feared fighters.

It clearly left Jaron Ennis puzzled. “I don’t know if they’re looking for a retirement check or what,” he asked. ‘Boots’ further stated his goals that he is in the game for legacy. He added, “I’m here to be undisputed; you know I’m taking over this weight division.”

Should the fight with Norman Jr. fall through, Ennis has other options. He could pivot to challenges against Mario Barrios or Eimantas Stanionis for title unification bouts. Success in those matchups could elevate Ennis to a top-tier PPV attraction, forcing Norman Jr. to reconsider his position. Yet, the allure of an undisputed legacy might still draw Ennis back to Norman Jr.’s door, even as he eyes a potential future clash with Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford.

In the end, the resolution of this negotiation will not only determine the immediate future of both fighters but also set the stage for the next chapter in the welterweight division’s storied history. Whether Brian Norman Jr. decides to step up or step aside, Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis is ready to take the next step on his path to greatness.
