“Jake Paul Addresses Critics: Defends Choice of Opponents in Candid Interview”
In the aftermath of Jake Paul’s recent victory over Ryan Bourland, questions have arisen regarding the caliber of opponents the YouTube sensation has been facing in his boxing career. Critics have accused Paul of handpicking easy opponents to bolster his record, prompting the self-proclaimed ‘Problem Child’ to address these concerns head-on.
During a candid conversation on the BS w/ Jake Paul podcast alongside his brother Logan Paul, the 27-year-old reflected on his recent bout with Bourland and the broader trajectory of his boxing journey. The San Juan card, which faced its fair share of setbacks including a last-minute cancellation of Amanda Serrano’s fight, left Paul grappling with questions about the level of opposition he has been facing.
Defending his choice of opponents, Jake Paul explained, “I guess on paper, he’s supposed to be, you know, like his record, his background, a three-time Golden Gloves champion. And then, yeah, he just comes under-prepared or I’m sharper than these guys… So, I think we really need to take a step back and like assess the level of opposition but that’s what we’re doing here is getting the experience under lights and building my career and seeing where the levels are.”
Despite criticisms, Jake Paul remains steadfast in his pursuit of championship glory. However, he acknowledges the need for a shift in strategy, indicating a desire to face tougher opponents to solidify his reputation as a serious contender in the boxing world.
In response, the influencer-turned-boxer, noted,

“If Jake Paul did not choose Ryan Bourland based on his weaknesses, what is the strategy that the fighter employs when he’s selecting his opponents?”
In a candid admission, Jake Paul expressed disappointment with his recent opponents, conceding that they have failed to provide the challenging experiences necessary for his growth as a boxer. Reflecting on his aspirations for a world championship, Paul emphasized the importance of facing opponents who can push him to his limits.
“I need those hard experience rounds and you know, these guys aren’t able to give it to me, so I’m a little disappointed, obviously,” Paul lamented.
He noted, “Okay, this guy, 10 and one, Andre August, one round. Let’s go with a guy who has twice as many fights. One young. Okay, you know, maybe we need to go somewhere else and figure out who could be a tougher fight for me. Because that is what I want on the path to world championship. I need those hard experience rounds and you know, these guys aren’t able to give it to me, so I’m a little disappointed, obviously.”
