“From Triumph to Tragedy: The Legacy of Alesia Graf, Beloved Champion of Women’s Boxing”

The boxing world is plunged into mourning as news of the untimely demise of former world champion Alesia Graf, fondly known as ‘The Tigress’, reverberates across the globe. At just 43 years old, Graf’s sudden departure has left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of fans, colleagues, and admirers alike. Born in Belarus and later embracing German citizenship, Graf’s journey from an aspiring student to a renowned boxer is a testament to her indomitable spirit and unwavering dedication to the sport.

Graf’s foray into boxing was not by design but by destiny. Arriving in Germany with dreams of education, she soon discovered her passion for the sweet science. Under the tutelage of Regina Halmich, herself a boxing luminary, Graf honed her skills and emerged as a formidable force in the ring. Halmich, in a poignant tribute, reminisced about Graf’s multifaceted persona – not just a training partner or a champion, but a cherished friend whose departure leaves a profound void.

“I don’t get it. Such sad news, RIP Alesia. Ps: I could tell so many stories about you, what made you outstanding and how special you were- but at the moment I can’t, sorry.”

Coincidentally, it was also Halmich who was responsible for Graf taking up the sport of boxing. In an interview, she recalled, “I read in the newspaper, an article about Regina Halmich, and that she was a world champion in boxing. That is what inspired me to get into boxing—I thought, what she can do, I can also do. So, I began to look for a gym to work out in, and then began boxing at that time.”
