“Hamlin’s Tyson Comparison Sparks Debate on NASCAR Brawl Tactics”

Denny Hamlin Compares His Prowess to Mike Tyson’s With 3-Word Justification on NASCAR Brawls

The recent brawl between Kyle Busch and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has become the hot topic in the NASCAR community as fans gear up for the Coca-Cola 600 next Sunday. Following his performance behind rival Joey Logano for North Wilkesboro’s million-dollar prize, Denny Hamlin addressed the incident during the post-race episode of “Actions Detrimental.”

Hamlin, reminiscing about the heated tensions on the track, expressed a desire to channel his inner fighter. In a bold statement, Hamlin likened his fighting technique to that of the legendary Mike Tyson. Despite his co-host Jared Allen’s skepticism, Hamlin made a compelling case, explaining why NASCAR drivers, including Stenhouse and Busch, often lose their cool.

Denny Hamlin Breaks Down the Perfect Post-Race Brawl Technique

To understand the context, the altercation between Busch and Stenhouse was ignited by Busch’s seemingly unnecessary push on Stenhouse in the early laps. Stenhouse, the first victim of Busch’s aggressive move, was understandably angry when Busch disregarded his perspective after a grueling 198 laps on the racetrack.

What followed was a scene reminiscent of a pro fight gone wrong rather than the expected outcome of a premier stock car racing event. However, some might argue it was a well-executed post-race brawl, considering the increased attention it brought. With the dust settled in North Wilkesboro, the incident has sparked discussions across the racing community.

While the physical demands of NASCAR and boxing differ greatly, the comparison of emotions and confrontations is not far-fetched. Stenhouse even called for a “charity match” to settle differences in a boxing ring. During their conversation, Allen asked Hamlin about his thoughts on Stenhouse’s right hook on Busch.

Hamlin, a seasoned sports fan, evaluated Stenhouse’s punch, describing it as “connected,” which kicked off the controversy following Logano’s All-Star race win. Hamlin speculated on his own strategy for a potential brawl, sharing his contingency plans. “I always think about if I’m going to be the first to punch, what am I going to do. Just as a heads up, I’m probably going to go for the left gut punch first… Yeah. Because it gets their head down and that’s when you come right underneath,” Hamlin explained.

His co-host humorously doubted Hamlin’s ability to land a second punch. Nonetheless, Hamlin confidently declared, “You see Mike Tyson with the bags? That’s me,” drawing a parallel to the ferocious boxer. Hamlin’s three concluding words, “I’m a fighter,” encapsulate his enduring spirit in NASCAR.

“Connected,”

“I always think about if I’m going to be the first to punch what am I going to do. Just as a heads up I’m probably going to go for the I’m going to do a left gut punch first… Yeah. Because it gets their head down and that’s when you come right underneath,” explained Hamlin.

“But the thing is I don’t know if you’ll be able to get the second punch in.”

“You see Mike Tyson with the bags? That’s me.”  “I’m a fighter,” announced Denny Hamlin.

Why Do NASCAR Drivers Lose Their Cool?

Hamlin referenced his battles with Joey Logano, including a notable incident at Martinsville four years ago, where a hard tap from Logano led to a brawl. He also recalled a heated exchange at the Brickyard in 2021 with Chase Briscoe, where Briscoe wrecked Hamlin on the final lap. Unlike the Busch-Stenhouse brawl, this altercation was quickly de-escalated.

However, Busch and Stenhouse’s recent clash did not resolve so peacefully. Hamlin offered an explanation for such situations: “Like if I were to say, ‘Hey, you wrecked me’ and someone said, ‘Yeah, what are you going to do about it?’ They’re going to get it…”

NASCAR, a contact sport with racing tires, V8 engines, and helmets instead of boxing gloves, trunks, or headgear, often sees such intense moments. As these worlds collide, the overlap is undeniable. Meanwhile, Mike Tyson prepares for his professional boxing return against Jake Paul, echoing the fighter spirit Hamlin embraces. With Stenhouse promising revenge against Busch, the Coca-Cola 600 could see another dramatic showdown this Sunday.
