“Should’ve Had Kendrick!”: Eminem’s Performance at Terence Crawford vs. Israil Madrimov Draws Mixed Reactions

The stage was set for an epic showdown as Eminem, the iconic rapper known for his high-energy performances and legendary hits, took to the stage ahead of the much-anticipated boxing match between Terence Crawford and Israil Madrimov. However, while the BMO Stadium was packed and buzzing with excitement, Eminem’s live performance stirred a whirlwind of reactions from fans, fighters, and analysts alike.

A Legendary Entrance: Eminem’s Return to the Ring Walk Scene

Eminem’s return to the boxing scene was eagerly anticipated, following his memorable performance at Crawford’s previous fight against Errol Spence Jr. last year. This time, the rapper took the stage with his classic hits—“Rap God,” “Till I Collapse,” “Cinderella Man,” and “Lose Yourself”—aimed at pumping up the crowd before the main event. Crawford, the reigning WBA super welterweight champion, was seen backstage preparing for his ring walk with Eminem’s music setting the tone.

For Crawford, Eminem’s involvement was more than just a performance; it was a gesture of personal significance. The rapper’s involvement was inspired by Crawford’s close friend and fellow boxer Shakur Stevenson. “You know what I was thinking would be crazy s***? I think it would be dope to have Eminem walk me out or something like that,” Stevenson reportedly suggested. Crawford took the idea to Eminem, who agreed to be part of the event, acknowledging Crawford as one of his favorite boxers.

Eminem shared it on his Instagram Story with the caption, “Hey champ, you ready to run it back tonight?”

Mixed Reactions: A Performance That Divided Opinions

As Eminem delivered his set, the reactions were decidedly mixed. The legendary ring announcer Bruce Buffer introduced Eminem, who performed in his signature hoodie, gold chain, and sagging trousers—classic Eminem attire. While the performance was intended to energize the audience, it didn’t quite hit the mark for everyone.

Alycia Baumgardner, the super-featherweight champion, expressed her dissatisfaction on social media, suggesting that another rap star might have been a better choice. “Should’ve had Kendrick!” Baumgardner tweeted, indicating her belief that Kendrick Lamar might have delivered a more electrifying performance. Her comments sparked a discussion about the effectiveness of Eminem’s performance in hyping up the crowd.

Kenneth Sims Jr. and Eddie Hearn Weigh In

Kenneth Sims Jr., a super-lightweight boxer, echoed Baumgardner’s sentiment. “Do we really need Eminem to perform???” Sims Jr. tweeted, questioning the necessity of the rapper’s performance for the event’s success. His tweet reflected a sentiment shared by some fans who felt the performance didn’t add to the excitement of the night.

In contrast, Eddie Hearn, promoter for Israil Madrimov, was enthusiastic about the performance. He tweeted, “Unbelievable scenes here! #RiyadhSeason,” showing his appreciation for the show. Hearn’s positive feedback was shared by some fans who found Eminem’s performance a nostalgic trip down memory lane, with one fan writing, “Took me back to! Eminem is a rap god.”

Yet, not everyone was pleased. Another fan criticized the performance for dampening the excitement for the main event, stating, “He just killed the interest.” This sentiment was echoed by others who felt the rapper’s performance fell short of generating the anticipated hype.

Crawford’s Fight Against Madrimov: The Main Event

As the performance wrapped up, the focus shifted back to the ring where Terence Crawford and Israil Madrimov prepared to face off. Crawford, having previously enjoyed Eminem’s support, was looking to defend his title and solidify his legacy. The fight itself would prove to be a test of Crawford’s skills and stamina as he squared off against Madrimov in a highly anticipated bout.

The Verdict: Did Eminem’s Performance Make or Break the Night?

Eminem’s performance, while a bold and star-studded choice, didn’t achieve universal acclaim. As the boxing world and fans weigh in on the rapper’s impact, it’s clear that the event was as much about the performance as it was about the fight itself. Whether you loved or loathed Eminem’s set, it undeniably added an element of controversy and debate to an already high-stakes evening.

As Terence Crawford and Israil Madrimov entered the ring, all eyes shifted from the stage to the squared circle, where the true drama of the night would unfold.
