In the blistering world of heavyweight boxing, anticipation hangs heavy in the air, crackling like electricity on a stormy night. Every fight is a spectacle, every bout a battle between titans. The latest rumblings from the ring suggest that the world may soon witness a clash of epic proportions: Deontay Wilder versus Carlos Takam.
The echoes of Wilder’s recent defeat still reverberate through the hearts of fans worldwide. December’s ‘Day of Reckoning’ saw the Alabama-born juggernaut face off against a Kiwi opponent, only to taste the bitter pill of defeat for the third time in his storied career. With that loss slipped away the chance to lock horns with his long-time adversary, Anthony Joshua, leaving the boxing world hungry for Wilder’s next move.
Could it be that the Cameroonian-born warrior, Carlos Takam, steps into the ring to meet Wilder’s fiery gaze? Takam, a French national, boasts an impressive record of 49 fights, emerging victorious in 41, tasting defeat in 8, and battling to a draw in one. Among his conquests stand names like Anthony Joshua, Derek Chisora, and Arslanbek Makhmudov. Yet, a showdown with Wilder still eludes him.
In an exclusive interview with Essentially Sports’ Sahil Sood, hosted by Press Box PR, Takam opened up about his thoughts on the ‘Bronze Bomber.’ Recalling his bout with Joseph Parker in 2016, Takam expressed admiration for his opponent’s performance, contrasting it with his reservations about Wilder’s conduct.
“He talks sh*t. He can’t play too much. He talks too much,” Takam remarked, alluding to Wilder’s post-trilogy fight refusal to shake hands with Tyson Fury, the man who bested him. Such actions, according to Takam, betray a lack of respect, a cardinal sin in the world of boxing.
But despite his criticisms, Takam harbors no ill will towards Wilder. On the contrary, he eagerly awaits the opportunity to test his mettle against the Alabama native. “Good luck for Wilder. I would like to fight Wilder,” Takam declared with a fire burning in his eyes.
As the world holds its breath, waiting to see if Wilder will accept the challenge, one question looms large: will Takam be the next name etched into Wilder’s storied career, or will the ‘Bronze Bomber’ rise once more, silencing his critics with a thunderous display of power? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: when these two warriors clash, sparks will fly, and the world will bear witness to the ferocious beauty of heavyweight boxing at its finest.
“You know, that fight, was a crazy fight man. That fight was amazing fight. You know, I like both the boxers. Wilder and Parker. I know Parker, Joseph Parker.” His inability to win and Parker’s performance was noteworthy, according to Takam.
In 2016, Takam went against Parker in Manukau City, Australia, in which he lost on points. Speaking fondly of that fight, the fighter explained,
“That fight, definitely, I was…support the guy. I know really good. Parker. Because some boxer doesn’t understand somebody like Wilder.”
He’s good guy, I don’t know him too much. But he’s too much. Blablabla… that’s crazy. He talks sh*t. He can’t play too much. He talk too much.”
For Takam, that’s a sign of disrespect. “About Tyson Firy… talks about Wilder refusing to shake Fury’s hand. Have a respect man. In boxing, there is respect.”
