Former WBC champion Deontay Wilder, 43-3-1 (42 KOs), will compete as a member of the Matchroom Team in the Matchroom vs. The legendary Queensberry on June 1 with a record of 26 -2-1 (21 KOs) took on Zhilei Zhang as part of the highly anticipated fight between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitrii Bivol The undercard of fighting 175 pounds.

On December 23, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Wilder, who is unemployed until 2023, lost on points to former WBO champion Joseph Parker. With the loss, Wilder saw his long-awaited fight chance against Anthony Joshua slip away.

A win over Zhang would see the American return to the top of the division and return to contention with Joshua and other heavyweight contenders not named Tyson Fury or Oleksandr Usyk. Wilder announced his fight against Zhang last Monday in London. He told the media that his love for the sport has returned and he vowed to show why he is the toughest heavyweight boxer in the history of the sport.

Coach Malik Scott echoed Wilder’s sentiments in an interview, saying he and Wilder were both embarrassed by what they did to Parker. The former world champion predicts that he will defeat Zhang by knockout, which will rekindle interest in the Joshua fight.

Speaking to the BBC, Wilder explained that it would be a shame if he couldn’t face his British opponent before the pair retire. – I have said this before; “It’s a shame we don’t play each other,” Wilder told the BBC.

Going back to his loss to Parker, Wilder insists that he is the better fighter than his former opponent Parker, and the New Zealander was the winner of the night.

“The monster is no longer there,” Wilder said

– That’s what I thought about that fight. Joseph Parker is definitely better than Deontay Wilder. He felt better that night.
