“Conor Benn’s Fight for Redemption: UKAD and BBBofC Appeal Victory Sends Shockwaves!”
In a stunning turn of events, Conor Benn, the British boxing sensation, finds himself engulfed in turmoil once again as the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) and UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) successfully appeal against the National Anti-Doping Panel’s (NADP) decision to lift his suspension over a failed doping test.
Conor Benn, son of British boxing legend Nigel Benn, had been under temporary suspension after testing positive for the banned substance clomifene ahead of a scheduled bout against Chris Eubank Jr. in October 2022. Despite his claims of accidental consumption, Benn faced the wrath of UKAD and BBBofC, which led to his suspension.
However, hope seemed to flicker for Benn when the NADP intervened, lifting the suspension and clearing him to fight once again. This decision offered a glimmer of redemption for Benn, who had vehemently denied any deliberate wrongdoing.
“I’m in shape, ready to go, and the months we gave them [to schedule the fight] are May and June,” said Pacquiao.
But the clouds of uncertainty have once again descended upon Benn’s career as UKAD and BBBofC emerged victorious in their appeal against the NADP’s ruling. The boxing world now stands divided, with questions swirling around Benn’s future in the sport.
Despite losing to Yordenis Ugas in August 2021, Pacquiao seemed confident about Benn. Pacquiao said, “It’s been the same preparation. I know I can do this.” Later in the interview, he said, “He’s popular here [in Saudi Arabia and the U.K.], and he’s willing to fight me now. I’ve seen it. He has a lot of fans here. I expect us to finalize it this weekend, and I think we’ll fight here in Saudi Arabia.”
While Benn’s camp maintains that they have not received any formal orders for suspension and assert his readiness to fight, the specter of further sanctions looms large. The BBBofC insists that Benn should not be allowed to compete in the UK until the circumstances surrounding the failed test are fully understood.
