David Benavidez Calls Out Canelo Alvarez’s $200 Million “Retirement Plan”

David Benavidez is not one to shy away from confrontation. The relentless fighter, known as ‘The Mexican Monster,’ is determined to secure a match against the undisputed super middleweight champion, Canelo Alvarez. However, Canelo has consistently denied Benavidez’s challenges, with the latest twist being his staggering demand of $200 million for the bout—a figure Benavidez believes is part of Canelo’s retirement strategy.

The Challenge Denied

Initially, Canelo dismissed the idea of fighting Benavidez, suggesting it wasn’t a significant enough challenge. Recently, however, Canelo has set a massive price tag of $200 million for the fight. On the “Million Dollaz Worth Of Game” podcast, Benavidez dissected this demand, attributing it to Canelo’s plan to retire after one last lucrative showdown.

Benavidez’s Perspective

When rapper and actor Gillie Da Kid mentioned Canelo’s unprecedented $200 million demand, Benavidez did not hold back. He passionately argued that Canelo’s demand is his way of securing a lavish retirement. “He knows damn well, that’s his retirement plan,” Benavidez asserted, suggesting that Canelo is strategically choosing easier fights while saving a high-stakes match against him for the grand finale.

A Fighter Ready for Battle

Benavidez confidently stated, “He knows damn well, I’m the strongest, I’m the fastest and I’m the best at this weight class. If it wasn’t for him not fighting me, I’d have been champion already.” He emphasized his formidable skills and power, recalling his intense bout with Dmitry Bivol, who defeated Canelo in May 2022. “They know how hard I hit, they know I’m not coming to play,” Benavidez declared, highlighting his readiness to dethrone Canelo.

The Dream Fight

Despite the obstacles, Benavidez remains resolute. He firmly believes he is the best in the super middleweight division and destined to dethrone Canelo. As he prepares for his upcoming fight against Ukraine’s Oleksandr Gvozdyk at 175 pounds on June 15, Benavidez keeps his ultimate goal in sight—a showdown with Canelo.

He added, “He knows damn well, I’m the strongest, I’m the fastest and I’m the best at this weight class. If it wasn’t for him, not fighting me I’d have been champion already”.

He straight up said, “They know how hard I hit, they know I’m not coming to play”.

“I will be the one to dethrone Canelo”.

Terence Crawford Weighs In

Terence Crawford, fresh off his victory against Errol Spence Jr., has also expressed interest in fighting Canelo. Speaking to Fight Hype after Benavidez’s victory over Demetrius Andrade last year, Crawford stated,

Crawford said, “He’s just got to tighten up a little bit on his defence, but other than that, he good. He ready for Canelo”.

Crawford emphasized that both fighters are the best in the division, and a match between them is essential.

The Big Question: Will Canelo Face Benavidez?

Is Canelo Alvarez planning to retire after eventually facing David Benavidez? The answer remains uncertain. However, considering Canelo’s illustrious career and achievements, it’s plausible that he seeks a final, monumental payday before hanging up his gloves. A fight with Benavidez promises not only a significant financial reward but also a thrilling clash that could captivate the boxing world.

“[Because] he knows damn well, that’s his retirement plan”.
