Keith Thurman Offers Crucial Advice to Ryan Garcia Amidst Manic Behavior: “It’s Not the Time”
The recent behavior of Ryan Garcia has sent shockwaves throughout the boxing community, drawing both criticism and concern from fans and professionals alike. Amidst the turmoil, Keith Thurman, a prominent figure in the sport, has stepped forward with crucial advice for the young boxer. In a candid interview with sports journalist Manouk Akopyan, Thurman expressed his deep concern for Garcia’s well-being amidst his recent erratic behavior.
Thurman, known as “One Time” in the boxing world, highlighted Garcia’s impressive skills as a fighter and initially expressed interest in a potential matchup between Garcia and Rolando “Rolly” Romero. However, he emphasized the importance of finding balance and inner stability, urging Garcia to prioritize his health and well-being above all else.
The looming fight with Devin Haney on April 20 adds another layer of complexity to Garcia’s situation. While Thurman acknowledged the desire for Garcia to participate in the match, he underscored the importance of recognizing when it’s not the right time to fight. Encouraging Garcia to seek support from loved ones and fans, Thurman emphasized the need for Garcia to focus on his own health and recovery before considering a return to the ring.
Despite the challenges Garcia faces, Thurman commended the overwhelming support the young boxer receives on social media, highlighting the admiration and affection people have for him. As Thurman prepares for his own comeback fight against Tim Tszyu on March 30, he hopes to inspire Garcia to overcome his current struggles and emerge stronger than ever.
“You know I like the fight, um I like I like Ryan’s style, I always have um personally, uh, just knowing when after I watched his last fight and uh knowing Rollie, you know, I mean, I love that Rollie and Isaac Cruz is is a heck of a fight, but I was really interested in seeing Rollie and um and Ryan Garcia as a matchup personally…” he said
“Of course nobody wants him to pull out of the fight, but I would have to say that um if right now it’s not the time, you know and and if he can and if he can afford to, you know, not be desperate for the paycheck, then at the end of the day, you know, you might want to think about your own health and wellness and just come back to the sport at another time…” said Thurman.
