Peter Fury Speaks Out: Bivol vs. Beterbiev Clash Set to Redefine Light Heavyweight Boxing
Published on April 24th, 2024, Mrinal Mishra’s exclusive interview with boxing trainer Peter Fury sheds light on the upcoming showdown between Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev. As the world eagerly anticipates their clash for undisputed glory on June 1st, Fury provides his insights into the technical brilliance of Bivol and the thunderous power of Beterbiev.
“How do you make at Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol? For the hardcore, a lot this is like probably the best fight to make in boxing at the minute. How do you see that fight?”
“They both got the chance, certainly. Bivol’s an elite boxer, isn’t he? Sort of loose on his feet, very awkward guy, and Beterbiev has got that awesome power, hasn’t he,” he noted.
“So again, it’s a pick-up type of fight. You can’t say guaranteed one way or the other,” Fury continued and Beterbiev’s devastating punching power. With clarity and insight, Fury delves into the nuances of the matchup, capturing the essence of what makes this fight one of the most anticipated in recent memory.
As Fury emphasizes the unpredictability of the bout, he echoes sentiments shared by boxing legend Roy Jones Jr., who also weighed in on the matchup. Jones Jr.’s perspective adds further depth to the discussion, highlighting Bivol’s resilience and Beterbiev’s age as key factors that could influence the outcome of the fight.
“Not 50-50,” declared Jones Jr. predicting that though the outcome is uncertain, things are not as even as they seem. “One, Beterbiev is 38 years old. Beterbiev has been down. Bivol has never been down,” he explained, highlighting Beterbiev’s age and him being dealt a knockdown by Jeff Page Jr.
“Bivol’s been in there with who at that time was pound-for-pound, the best, Canelo Alvarez. Made him look like nothing,” Jones added, though he doesn’t dismiss Beterbiev’s chances entirely, noting, “It’s not going to be an easy night for Bivol either.”
