Anthony Joshua Encourages Alex Pereira to Pursue Boxing Career – “Options Are Endless”

Alex Pereira continues to cement his legacy in the UFC, capturing attention with his remarkable performances. At UFC 303, the 37-year-old Brazilian defended his light heavyweight title against Jiri Prochazka, delivering a second-round knockout that left fans and fighters alike in awe. Among those impressed was British heavyweight boxing star Anthony Joshua, who suggested that Pereira consider a move to boxing. This exchange has sparked speculation and excitement in the combat sports community.

Joshua’s Intriguing Proposal

Anthony Joshua, known for his prowess in the boxing ring, took to Twitter to express his admiration for Pereira’s skills, suggesting that he could make a successful transition to boxing. “Alex Pereira should make a boxing debut one day,” Joshua tweeted, highlighting Pereira’s formidable left hook that has brought him numerous victories in the UFC.

Pereira, honored by the suggestion, responded with a tweet of his own, “I’m honored you think so. It’s always been my dream, I’m 37 I cannot make a career in it so who do you recommend I fight?” This interaction quickly caught the attention of fans and analysts, eager to see how this potential cross-over could unfold.

Joshua’s Follow-Up and Pereira’s Options

In a follow-up tweet, Joshua provided a more detailed response, “The options are endless champ. I am sure something can be done. Drop @258mgt a line.” This suggestion has fueled speculation about who Pereira might face if he decides to step into the boxing ring. Despite his age, Pereira’s recent performances have shown that he is still at the peak of his athletic abilities.

Pereira has successfully defended his UFC title twice within a few months, each time winning by knockout. This dominance in the octagon has led many to believe that he could find similar success in boxing. However, transitioning from MMA to boxing is not without its challenges, and Pereira’s journey would be closely watched by fans and critics alike.

“Alex Pereira should make a boxing debut one day”.  Pereira did respond to Joshua with a tweet, “I’m honored you think so. It’s always been my dream, I’m 37 I cannot make a career in it so who do you recommend I fight?”

Pereira’s Potential Move to Heavyweight

While the prospect of a boxing debut is enticing, Pereira has also hinted at another significant move – stepping up to the heavyweight division in the UFC. During his post-fight interview at UFC 303, Pereira expressed his interest in competing as a heavyweight, stating, “I think that’s in my future.” This statement has generated excitement among fans, eager to see him take on new challenges.

Chael Sonnen, a well-known MMA analyst, offered his insights on how Pereira could smoothly transition to the heavyweight division. On his YouTube channel, Sonnen suggested that Pereira could fight and potentially lose to Magomed Ankalaev, the #2 ranked contender in the light heavyweight division. “Your fastest route if we’re going to judge history would be to not only fight Ankalaev, it would be to lose to him,” Sonnen explained. According to Sonnen, a loss to Ankalaev would allow Pereira to declare his move to heavyweight, a strategy that has historical precedent in the UFC.

“If he loses to Ankalaev, all he has to do is raise his hand the very next morning and say, I am now a heavyweight and guess what, he will be. They will put him at heavyweight.”

Community and Expert Reactions

The idea of Pereira moving to heavyweight has been met with mixed reactions. Some fans are thrilled at the prospect of seeing him face off against the top fighters in the heavyweight division, while others are cautious, recognizing the challenges such a move entails. Despite these differing opinions, the consensus is that Pereira’s career trajectory remains one of the most exciting in combat sports.

Pereira himself has not committed to any immediate changes, stating that he is in no hurry to switch divisions. For now, he remains focused on his current reign as the light heavyweight champion, but his openness to new opportunities keeps fans on the edge of their seats.

As Alex Pereira considers his next move, whether it be stepping into the boxing ring or transitioning to the heavyweight division, his journey remains a focal point in the world of combat sports. With advice from legends like Anthony Joshua and the support of his fans, Pereira’s future endeavors are bound to be as thrilling as his past achievements.
