The rise of Anthony Joshua and the new relationships with Frank Warren and Turki Alalshikh have prepared Boxing Matchroom for the 2024 strength, but one of their members has announced that he did not lose the promotion team of Eddie Hearn.

Keohin Ajako (14-0), a middleweight dropout, scored a career-best win over Troy Williamson in the Michael Conlan vs. Jordan Gill in December. Looks like he’s gearing up for another fight with a big name at super welterweight.
However,
in an interview with Seconds Out, Ajako revealed that he left Matchroom Boxing after he was not offered a new challenge.

“I fought Troy Williamson once and Eddie Hearn said ‘you’ve got to keep going, you’ve got to fight hard’. I agreed and I was going to beat Troy and then my last fight with Matchroom and everything went quiet I didn’t hear from them but that’s boxing sometimes I know the game. I was in the theater in Liverpool preparing and waiting for another opportunity.

–It was very disappointing not to have Eddie (Hearn) after his big win against Troy. A big win, an easy win, a convincing win and working on home soil in Belfast showed Eddie or another promoter that I could come back to the Belfast ster and start to making headlines at major tournaments.
“I
wanted to move forward, and a promoter asked me to join the fight.”

Ajako is ranked ninth in the EBU rankings and hopes his next fight will be against another top 10 fighter.

Ashley’s thoughts:

The boxing world was shocked when middleweight star Keohin Ajako announced his retirement from Matchroom Boxing and longtime promoter Eddie Hearn. Ajako’s decision comes at a time when Matchroom is booming, due to the rise of stars like Anthony Joshua and working with Frank Warren and the new partnership of Turki Ala and Turki Alalshikh.

Ajako is coming off a win over Troy Williamson in December that shows his strength in the welterweight division. Despite his success, Ajako revealed in an interview with Seconds Out that he felt neglected by Matchroom after refusing to accept new challenges following his win over Williamson.

In his own words, Ajako expressed his disappointment at not hearing from the Matchroom, especially after such a big win. He hopes to build on his strength and get more opportunities to showcase his skills, especially in his home town of Belfast, where he proved his ability to attract the attention of fans and promoters. .

While Ajako is committed to progressing in his career, his decision to leave Matchroom highlights the challenges new fighters face in the competitive landscape of the sport. As Ajaco looks to his future endeavors, he hopes his next fight will be an opportunity to face another 11-time champion and continue his journey to boxing glory.
