The Frank Martin vs. Gervonta Davis matchup has yet to be confirmed, but Martin did nothing to quiet the rumors during Ryan Garcia’s public workout in Dallas last week.
There has long been speculation that WBA lightweight champion Davis would face Martin on Saturday, June 22nd on Prime Video PPV.
Garcia’s gymnastics buddy Martin (18-0 (12 KOs)), who trains with Derrick James in Dallas, Texas, showed up at the gym during Garcia’s practice and claimed the lightweight world title held by Davis, 29. He was the second choice candidate. -0 (27 KOs) has not fought since last July, when he defeated Artem Harutyunyan by unanimous decision.
Since that fight, rumors grew that Martin would face Shakur Stevenson, but the match fell through. The 29-year-old, known as “Ghost,” could face Davis, 29, one of boxing’s brightest stars. “A lot of people are going to experience something unexpected,” Martin told FightHub TV. “Everyone knows who Tank (Gervonta Davis) is. He’s a star. A lot of people in the boxing world don’t really know who I am.”
Martin sees the potential fight as an opportunity, citing the hydration clause that Garcia apparently suffered from when he fought Tank last April and said he wouldn’t have to agree to the same terms.

Martin acknowledged, “There’s no hydration clause, there’s no catchweight,” and he nodded in agreement, suggesting it would be a regular lightweight fight.
“This is one of my opportunities to wake up the world,” Martin added. Davis hasn’t boxed since he knocked out Garcia in the seventh round of a PPV hit last April.
Davis was sentenced to 90 days of house arrest and three years of probation following a hit-and-run incident in Baltimore. On June 1, 2023, Davis was found to have violated the terms of his house arrest, and he was sentenced to serve the remainder of his sentence behind bars. He was released after 44 days, but no fight has yet been announced.
Martin revealed that he has begun preparing for his fight against Davis, one of the biggest stars in the sport.
