Breaking: Ryan Garcia plans to make a huge comeback in 2025 with a tune-up fight

Ryan Garcia declared in an intensely passionate speech that he plans to return to the boxing ring in the early months of 2025 following what he refers to as his “jail sentence.” This exciting fighter hopes to start his comeback with a tune-up fight—a planned step to shake off the rust and rekindle his career—after being sidelined by a suspension that ends on April 20, 2025. His need for action is evident after a year away from the ring, and the boxing community is already giddy with expectation.

A Year of Uncertainty: Garcia’s Suspension and Lost Chances

In what can only be called a Brooklyn massacre, Garcia destroyed Devin Haney in their final bout, which happened in April 2024. His astounding performance catapulted him to new levels of fame. But both the victory and the acclaim were fleeting. Garcia was immediately suspended from the New York Commission after testing positive for the illegal drug ostanine not long after.

The punishment erased both his incredible victory over Haney and the loss from Haney’s record. The news that Garcia was about to launch his career into a stratosphere of big fights with the sport’s elite, including possible matchups with Shakur Stevenson, Teofilo Lopez, and Gervonta Davis, stunned fans and pundits.

Haney has also been in limbo throughout this time. Fans still remember the Garcia loss, even if it was removed from his record. For the time being, the suspension dashed dreams for a huge event—a rematch. Haney hasn’t competed since the Brooklyn event, but in order to maintain his skills, he is anticipated to step back into the ring in December 2024. He made the observation that any rematch with Garcia would have to be on his terms, indicating that the disappointment of losing out on a chance at atonement clearly haunts him.

Ryan Garcia’s annoyance: “Jail” With No Battles

Garcia has spoken candidly about the difficult break in his career. He calls his suspension “jail”—a prison that has prevented him from pursuing his passions and reaping the financial benefits that his quick ascent had promised. Garcia recently joked, “Boxing jail going quick,” indicating that he’s mentally calculating the number of days until he can return to fighting.

Although the suspension has affected him personally, it has also reduced his earning potential. He placed on hold the bouts that would have defined his career, the victories he could have pursued, and the increased notoriety he could have gained.

Garcia’s Next Target: Who? Rolando “Rolly” Romero is the focus.

When Garcia returns in 2025, he won’t say exactly who his next opponent will be. Fans and experts alike, however, are demanding a battle with Rolando “Rolly” Romero, a fighter whose boisterous character and flamboyant style would surely make for an interesting matchup. Garcia would get much-needed training from a bout with Romero, and it would also ensure a large payout and an enthusiastic audience. After such a long break, supporters are excited to see Garcia’s battling spirit rekindled.

This fight’s most likely goal is to gradually reintroduce Garcia to competition following a year off while also keeping him in the public eye by facing a well-known opponent. Romero looks like the perfect choice because he has been similarly outspoken about his hunger for major battles. Since both guys are renowned for their explosive strength and fast reflexes, a fight between them seems highly likely.

The true question, though, is whether Garcia’s prolonged absence from the ring will lessen his skill or inspire an even more impressive return.

The Lost Money Battles: What Would Have Happened

Garcia has every right to be frustrated. He had a number of fights on the table before to the suspension that could have solidified his status as one of boxing’s greatest names. Given the animosity between the two, a rematch with Haney would have easily packed venues and generated enormous pay-per-view sales. A bout against Gervonta Davis would have pitted two inexperienced but fierce fighters against one another, each looking to establish their mettle as elite athletes. Additionally, a matchup with Teofimo Lopez or Shakur Stevenson would have provided the opportunity to consolidate titles and establish oneself as the unchallenged winner in his weight class.

These battles were all possible before to his suspension. However, Garcia is now forced to fight his way back to the top, and this tune-up fight in early 2025 will be his first move in that direction.

Haney’s Disappointment: A Combatant Placed in Indefinite Pause

Haney has perhaps taken the brunt of this punishment the hardest, notwithstanding Garcia’s suffering. He was in a difficult situation after losing to Garcia, but the suspension erased that from his official record. Haney’s reputation hasn’t quite recovered, though. He was denied the opportunity to promptly exact revenge for that defeat, a rematch that might have changed his story and elevated him back to the respect of the boxing community.

Haney’s career is still shadowed by the Garcia bout, even as he gets ready to make a comeback in December 2024. After the mayhem of their first fight, he has made it clear that he is unwilling to offer Garcia any benefits by insisting that any potential rematch must take place on his terms. It remains to be seen, though, if Garcia’s comeback will eclipse Haney or if he can find a way to make amends.

The Future: A 2025 Fire Started

Garcia’s remarks make it very evident that he will not be returning peacefully. He declared with a fierce determination, “I’m already going after the biggest fights.” His goal to make up for lost time is set for 2025, and his passion is as strong as ever. For Garcia, a tune-up bout is just the start; he’s eager to take back the top spot in the boxing world.

Following a year marred by lost chances, personal aggravation, and witnessing the sport progress without him, Garcia’s comeback looks set to be one of the most significant boxing events of 2025. Will he return more powerfully this time, or will his absence have softened his blow?
