The Munguia Question: An Ambitious Target

Eddie Hearn’s interest in pairing Pacheco with Munguia isn’t merely about securing another win; it’s about making a statement. Munguia, a seasoned fighter with a massive following, represents a significant step up in competition for Pacheco. However, this is more than just a matchup; it’s a gamble that Hearn is willing to take to elevate Pacheco’s status in the boxing world.

Financial Challenges: Is Munguia Worth the Cost?

Munguia’s price tag could be a deal-breaker. Hearn is reportedly eyeing the possibility of placing this fight on DAZN PPV, hoping the additional revenue will help cover the steep costs. However, even with PPV revenue, Munguia’s demands may exceed what Hearn is prepared to offer. The situation mirrors Hearn’s recent negotiations with WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr., where he balked at the $2.2 million price tag, offering only $1.75 million instead.

The Stakes: Selling Out Crypto Arena

Hearn believes that a fight between Pacheco and Munguia could easily sell out the Crypto Arena in Los Angeles. The prospect of such a significant draw is undoubtedly enticing, but the question remains whether Hearn can raise enough money to make this fight a reality. His reluctance to meet previous financial demands casts doubt on his ability to secure Munguia for this high-stakes match.

Past Negotiations: A Cautionary Tale

Hearn’s approach to negotiations with Brian Norman Jr. serves as a cautionary tale. Despite his initial enthusiasm for Norman’s potential, Hearn ultimately failed to invest in his future, offering a sum that fell short of expectations. This raises concerns about whether Hearn will be able to provide Munguia with an offer that meets his demands or whether he will face a similar outcome.

A Different Challenge: Munguia’s Demands

Munguia is a different caliber of fighter compared to the opponents Hearn has lined up for Pacheco so far. With a significant fanbase and a reputation to uphold, Munguia will likely demand a purse far higher than what Hearn has been willing to offer in the past. For Hearn to secure this fight, he would need to step up his financial game, potentially offering $5 million or more.

Alternative Paths: More Affordable Opponents

If the Munguia fight falls through, Hearn has several alternative options that could be more financially viable. Fighters like Bektemir Melikuziev, Erik Bazinyan, Rohan Murdock, Zach Parker, Kevin Lele Sadjo, Sergiy Derevyanchenko, and Vladimir Shishkin are all potential opponents who could present a worthy challenge for Pacheco without breaking the bank. These fighters are likely within Hearn’s budget, offering a more practical path forward.

Hearn’s Optimism: Seeing a Bright Future

Despite the challenges, Hearn remains optimistic about Pacheco’s future. “It’s very unusual to have a fighter at that age, so good, 23-0 in the world, and I think he has a massive future ahead of him,” Hearn said in a recent interview with iFL TV. Pacheco’s youth and talent make him a promising prospect, but whether he can live up to Hearn’s high expectations remains to be seen.

Pacheco’s Performance: Room for Improvement

Pacheco’s recent performance against the 35-year-old Sulecki was solid, but not spectacular. While he managed to stop the Polish fighter in the sixth round with a body shot, the victory was far from a statement win. Hearn must temper his expectations and recognize that Pacheco still has a long way to go before he can be considered a top contender at 168 pounds.

The Reality Check: Can Pacheco Rise to the Occasion?

Hearn needs to be realistic about Pacheco’s prospects. The young fighter has shown promise, but there are others in the division who could pose serious threats. Fighters like Osleys Iglesias and Christian Mbilli have the skills and power to dismantle Pacheco, making it clear that the road to the top won’t be easy.

The Munguia Dilemma: Will Top Rank Play Ball?

Even if Hearn manages to scrape together the money Munguia would require, there’s no guarantee that Munguia’s promoters at Top Rank will agree to the fight. With Munguia coming off a loss to Canelo Alvarez, his team is likely looking to rebuild his confidence before taking on another dangerous opponent like Pacheco. Unless Hearn can provide a substantial offer, it’s unlikely that Munguia’s camp will entertain the idea of this fight.
