“Will Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson Ever Meet in the Ring? Leonard Ellerbe Weighs In on the Hot Debate”

The boxing world is abuzz with speculation about one of the most anticipated matchups in recent history: a clash between WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis and WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson. This potential showdown has been a topic of fervent discussion among fans and pundits alike. With each fighter bringing a unique blend of skill, charisma, and unbeaten records, the fight promises to be a spectacular event. Yet, the burning question remains: Will this epic battle ever come to fruition?

The Elusive Showdown: Davis vs. Stevenson

As Shakur Stevenson prepares for his upcoming bout against Joe Cordina on October 12th at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the anticipation for a potential fight against Gervonta Davis only grows. Stevenson, who recently signed with Matchroom Boxing, has been vocal about his desire to face Davis. Despite the heated exchanges and social media taunts between the two fighters, the bout remains elusive.

Meanwhile, Davis was initially slated to face Vasyl Lomachenko in a unification bout later this year. However, Lomachenko’s decision to step back and spend more time with his family has left Davis’s future opponent in question. This unexpected turn of events has reignited interest in the Davis-Stevenson matchup, as fans and analysts alike ponder if the stars might finally align for this highly anticipated clash.

“We going to see. He’s going to let you know.”

Ellerbe shared, “There are a few things on the table so we’ll see what happens.”

Ellerbe’s Insight: A Cryptic yet Hopeful Outlook

Former Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe, a long-time ally of Davis, has been at the heart of the speculation surrounding this potential fight. In a recent interview with Fight Hype TV, Ellerbe provided a cryptic yet promising response when asked about the possibility of Davis facing Stevenson. “We’re going to see. He’s going to let you know,” Ellerbe stated, leaving fans both intrigued and hopeful.

Ellerbe responded by saying, “Of course, why not?”

Shakur Stevenson’s Ambitious Plans

Eddie Hearn, the head of Matchroom Boxing, has been vocal about his ambitions for Shakur Stevenson. In a recent interview on Matchroom’s YouTube channel, Hearn outlined a clear strategy for Stevenson’s career. “For me, what we do is we go Joe Cordina, William Zepeda, Gervonta Davis,” Hearn stated. This plan indicates that Stevenson’s path is strategically designed to culminate in a high-stakes bout with Davis.

Hearn’s confidence in making the Davis fight happen is palpable. “We’re not chasing ‘Tank.’ We’re chasing greatness, but that comes with ‘Tank’ because he’s an unbelievable fighter,” Hearn explained. Beyond this, Hearn envisions Stevenson potentially moving up to 140 pounds to challenge other notable fighters like Liam Paro and Devin Haney. “Right now the focus is 135 and doing the job against Cordina, doing the job against Zepeda,” Hearn added.

The Road Ahead: A Waiting Game

Despite the excitement surrounding the potential matchup, fans will likely have to wait at least another year to see Davis and Stevenson square off. The uncertainty surrounding Davis’s next opponent and the logistics of making the fight happen suggest that the bout remains a distant possibility for now.

Ellerbe’s hopeful yet non-committal responses suggest that while the fight is a tantalizing prospect, it is not yet set in stone. As both fighters continue their careers and pursue their respective goals, the boxing world remains on tenterhooks, eagerly awaiting any news that might bring this dream matchup closer to reality.
