“Unfair Decisions and Accountability Crisis: Serhii Bohachuk’s Trainer Slams Boxing’s Judge System Amidst Tony Bellew’s Support”

In the latest boxing spectacle, Vergil Ortiz Jr. clinched a narrow majority decision victory over Serhii Bohachuk, marking the toughest bout of his career. This match, held last weekend, showcased not only Ortiz Jr.’s endurance but also ignited a firestorm of controversy regarding the judging standards in boxing.

A Grueling Battle and Its Aftermath

Ortiz Jr., the 26-year-old rising star, found himself in a fierce battle against Bohachuk, who landed two significant knockdowns—one in the first round and another in the eighth. Despite these setbacks, Ortiz Jr. rallied in the later rounds, delivering a flurry of punches that secured him a razor-thin decision. However, the outcome sparked a heated debate about the fairness of the judges’ scores.

Robles’ Outburst: A Call for Change

Serhii Bohachuk’s trainer, Manny Robles, did not hold back during his post-fight interview. Frustrated by what he perceived as an unjust decision, Robles unleashed a powerful critique of the judging system. “I get sick and tired of this s**t,” Robles declared, emphasizing his disillusionment with the recurring issue of unfair decisions in boxing. He criticized the lack of accountability for judges, noting, “Nobody holds [the judges] accountable.”

Robles pointed out a glaring issue in the sport: while fighters, promoters, and trainers are all subject to post-fight scrutiny, judges operate with impunity. This lack of transparency and accountability, according to Robles, undermines the integrity of the sport and leaves fighters at the mercy of subjective decisions.

“I get sick and tired of this s**t. Time and time again how unfair they could be to these fighters like tonight”.

The worst part for Robles, “Nobody holds [the judges] accountable”. everybody is interviewed, “except the judges”, which he believes is the ultimate mistake of the sport. So, he boldly announced, “I believe that’s got to stop. I believe they should be held accountable”.

“Fighters, promoters, pundits and managers all answer questions post fight! Why can’t [the] judges?? Louder please Mr Robles”, Bellew added.

Tony Bellew Backs Robles

Adding his voice to the growing chorus of critics, former cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew expressed strong support for Robles’ stance. On social media, Bellew echoed Robles’ concerns, emphasizing that fighters, promoters, and pundits are held accountable, while judges remain unchallenged. “Been begging for this for years!! Just for the judges to be held accountable!” Bellew tweeted. His support for Robles highlights a broader issue within boxing, where the call for greater transparency and fairness continues to gain momentum.

He said, “I don’t think those should have been knockdowns. The second one, for sure [shouldn’t have been]”

Suggesting he had done enough to win, Ortiz Jr. added, “I proved everyone wrong that said I’m washed, I can’t fight at 154, I can’t go the distance. All of that fueled me”. Meanwhile, when Bohachuk was given the mic, powered by his two knockdowns, said, “People saw this fight today and who understand boxing know what happened today”.

Ortiz Jr.’s Controversial Victory

The decision was particularly contentious given Ortiz Jr.‘s own protests regarding the knockdowns. After being knocked down in the eighth round, Ortiz Jr. vehemently argued that the second knockdown was questionable. “I don’t think those should have been knockdowns. The second one, for sure [shouldn’t have been],” Ortiz Jr. asserted in his post-fight comments. Despite the controversies, Ortiz Jr. remained defiant, using the doubts cast on his performance as motivation to prove his critics wrong. “I proved everyone wrong that said I’m washed, I can’t fight at 154, I can’t go the distance,” he added.

A Call for Reform

While the bout itself was a testament to both fighters’ skills and determination, the controversy surrounding the judging has sparked an urgent call for reform in boxing. The sport’s governing bodies must address these concerns to restore faith in the judging process and ensure that future decisions are both fair and transparent.

The aftermath of this fight serves as a crucial reminder of the need for systemic changes within boxing. As the debate over the judging system continues, the sport must confront its issues head-on to safeguard its integrity and fairness.
