Terence Crawford Laser-Focused on Israil Madrimov: No Distractions, Just Determination

As the boxing world eagerly anticipates Terence Crawford’s upcoming showdown with Israil Madrimov on August 3rd at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, it’s clear that Crawford is singularly focused on the task at hand. This bout, which marks the debut of His Excellency Turki Alalshikh’s Riyadh Season in the U.S., represents more than just another fight for Crawford—it’s a critical step in his storied career.

Despite the buzz surrounding a potential matchup with unified super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez, Crawford is maintaining a laser-sharp focus on Madrimov. The 36-year-old boxing prodigy, who has made history by capturing world titles in three weight classes and achieving undisputed status in two, is intent on adding the WBA super welterweight and WBO interim super welterweight titles to his impressive collection.

In a candid appearance on Logan Paul’s popular podcast ‘Impaulsive,’ Crawford laid bare his mindset ahead of the fight. When asked by co-host Mike Majlak if the bout with Madrimov was a mere stepping stone toward a clash with Canelo, Crawford was unequivocal. “No! No! Never!” he replied, his voice brimming with conviction. “I don’t look at fights as stepping stones because it’s about now.” His response highlighted his philosophy of living in the present and not getting bogged down by future possibilities.

Crawford’s approach to his career is deeply influenced by his personal outlook. “I might not wake up tomorrow,” he explained, reflecting a mindset that values the immediacy of each fight over distant aspirations. “I am not worried about Canelo, I am not thinking about Canelo.” While Crawford may not be preoccupied with Canelo at the moment, his statements about the potential fight have nonetheless captured the imagination of boxing fans.

“No! No! Never! I don’t look at fights as stepping stones because it’s about now,” Crawford quickly responded with a sense of ease in his voice.

“I might not wake up tomorrow,” Crawford explained, so he doesn’t like thinking about stuff far in the future. Announcing, as if the world needed to know, Crawford suggested his sole focus is on Madrimov, adding, “I am not worried about Canelo, I am not thinking about Canelo.”

The discussion took a further turn when Crawford addressed his future in an interview with Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour. Here, he clarified his position on why he’s targeting a fight with Canelo over Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis. Crawford acknowledged that while Ennis is a rising star, a bout with Canelo represents a more significant opportunity for his legacy and financial standing. “Canelo is going to bring way more to my legacy; way more to my bank account,” he stated. This straightforward approach underscores Crawford’s pragmatic strategy as he navigates the final chapters of his illustrious career.

“and that’s not Boots”. He added, “Canelo is going to bring way more to my legacy; way more to my bank account.”

Yet, the prospect of a Canelo fight remains uncertain. With Canelo Alvarez’s own busy schedule and career trajectory, whether the bout will come to fruition is still up in the air. For now, Crawford’s attention is firmly fixed on Madrimov, and his preparation is a testament to his commitment to excellence.

Editor’s Note: Terence Crawford’s unwavering focus on his upcoming fight with Israil Madrimov is a testament to his dedication and professional ethos. As he gears up for this critical bout, his clear-eyed approach to his career and legacy offers valuable insights into the mindset of a champion. Whether or not a future fight with Canelo Alvarez materializes, Crawford’s current focus on Madrimov ensures that fans can expect a high-caliber performance.
