Felix Trinidad and Miguel Cotto Put to Shame as Jake Paul’s Manager Hypes Amanda Serrano’s 50th Fight

Does the path to greatness have to trample over the legacies of the past? Not necessarily. To many fans, every journey to the top is unique and need not clash with those who came before. However, Nakisa Bidarian, Jake Paul’s manager, seems to have a different perspective. He believes the stage where Amanda Serrano stands today surpasses what some legendary boxers from her native Puerto Rico have achieved.

Amanda Serrano’s Milestone Fight

‘The Real Deal’ Amanda Serrano is set to fight her fiftieth bout against Stevie Morgan on Saturday, July 20, at Tampa, Florida’s Amalie Arena. This comes after the breakdown of the Nina Meinke fight in March and the postponement of the highly anticipated Katie Taylor rematch. The co-main event marks a significant milestone in Serrano’s career, drawing comparisons to Puerto Rican legends like Felix Trinidad and Miguel Cotto.

Nakisa Bidarian’s Bold Statements

At the final press conference, Nakisa Bidarian addressed various topics, from the earlier scheduled Mike Tyson fight to the Nate Diaz-Jorge Masvidal boxing match controversy. But what caught everyone’s attention was his comments on Amanda Serrano. When asked about the significance of having Serrano’s fight as a co-main event, Bidarian didn’t hold back.

Bidarian stated that one of the main goals he and Jake Paul had when founding Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) was to elevate women’s boxing. He praised Serrano as one of the greatest boxers of all time, boldly claiming, “She has done things that men from Puerto Rico—the Trinidades and Miguel Cottos—haven’t done.”

Given she’s on to her fiftieth fight, he said, “She has done things that men from Puerto Rico the Trinidad’s the Miguel Cotto, haven’t done.”

A Legacy Comparison: Serrano vs. Puerto Rican Legends

Bidarian’s remarks sparked a flurry of reactions. Felix Trinidad and Miguel Cotto are revered in Puerto Rican boxing history. Trinidad, known as ‘Tito,’ fought in an era alongside Oscar De La Hoya, Bernard Hopkins, and Roy Jones Jr., helping to revive boxing post-Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield. His fights brought crowds back to arenas and pay-per-views.

Miguel Cotto, on the other hand, left a lasting legacy with epic battles against Floyd Mayweather Jr., Canelo Alvarez, Manny Pacquiao, Zab Judah, and Shane Mosley. These bouts cemented his status as one of boxing’s top draws over the last two decades.

The Controversy of Comparing Eras

Comparisons are inevitable in sports, but they often ignite passionate debates. Fans and pundits argue about the fairness of comparing fighters from different eras. Bidarian’s assertion that Serrano’s achievements surpass those of Trinidad and Cotto may raise eyebrows, but it underscores the impact she has had on women’s boxing.

Celebrating Serrano’s Achievements

Amanda Serrano’s journey is nothing short of extraordinary. As she approaches her fiftieth fight, her resume boasts multiple world titles across seven weight divisions. Her dominance in the ring and her role in promoting women’s boxing have earned her a place among the sport’s greats.

Serrano’s dedication and hard work reflect in every bout she fights. Her resilience and tenacity have made her an icon, not just in Puerto Rico but globally. Bidarian’s comments, though controversial, highlight the need to recognize and celebrate her contributions to the sport.

The Future of Women’s Boxing

The co-main event status of Serrano’s fight against Stevie Morgan signifies a shift in the boxing world. Women’s boxing is gaining the recognition it deserves, thanks to trailblazers like Serrano and promoters like MVP. This fight marks a step forward in bringing more attention and respect to female fighters.

Amanda Serrano’s upcoming fiftieth fight is more than just a milestone; it’s a testament to her enduring legacy in boxing. While comparisons with legends like Trinidad and Cotto are contentious, they highlight Serrano’s impact on the sport. As she steps into the ring, the world watches with anticipation, celebrating her past achievements and looking forward to her future triumphs.
