Shakur Stevenson Sets Sights on Major Fights, Seeks Promoter with “Big Opportunities”

Shakur Stevenson is making it clear: if promotions want to sign him, they better come prepared with serious opportunities. The 27-year-old boxer from Newark has his eyes firmly fixed on high-stakes matchups against elite opponents, including Gervonta Davis, Vasyl Lomachenko, and William Zepeda. As a free agent, Stevenson is determined to carve out a path that leads him to the biggest fights in boxing.

The Pursuit of Greatness

In recent weeks, Stevenson has faced a wave of criticism regarding his performances and aspirations, with figures like Teofimo Lopez labeling him “big-headed” for seeking these major bouts. However, Stevenson remains undeterred. “A lot of people want to criticize me and give their opinion on me,” he stated, showcasing a level of resilience and focus that many admire. His desire to step into the ring with top-tier talent speaks volumes about his ambition.

“I want big fights. There are a lot of big-name fighters out there. William Zepeda, Gervonta Davis, Lomachenko. I want the biggest and the best fights available,” Stevenson declared. His commitment to challenging himself is palpable, indicating a fighter who is hungry for competition and eager to prove himself against the best.

Aiming for Zepeda

Stevenson’s pursuit of William Zepeda has become a recurring theme in his discussions. Known for his explosive style and remarkable punching volume, Zepeda is currently ranked as the third-best Lightweight boxer by The Ring Magazine. Shakur expressed admiration for Zepeda’s fighting style, calling him a “hell of a fighter” and stating that facing someone of Zepeda’s caliber would bring out the best in him.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been in the ring with a professional fighter like that. Throws a bunch of punches, he’s great with his own style. But a guy like that would bring the best out of me,” Stevenson said, emphasizing the potential for a thrilling matchup. This highlights his understanding of the sport: it’s not just about winning, but also about rising to the occasion against formidable opponents.
