“Just Another Day for Me”: Jaron Ennis Breaks Silence After Outselling Mike Tyson in Philadelphia
Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis is gearing up for a momentous homecoming fight in Philadelphia this Saturday, facing off against David Avanesyan at the Wells Fargo Center. The 27-year-old IBF welterweight champion has already achieved a significant milestone by surpassing Mike Tyson’s record for ticket sales in the city, a record set during Tyson’s bout against Buster Mathis Jr. in 1995. With projections indicating a turnout between 13,000 to 14,000 spectators, Ennis has proven his drawing power in his hometown.
Despite this achievement, Ennis remains focused on the task at hand—the upcoming bout against Avanesyan. When asked about eclipsing Tyson’s ticket sales, Ennis responded calmly, “I don’t know, I feel normal. It’s just another day for me.” He expressed gratitude for the support from Philadelphia and emphasized his excitement about fighting at the Wells Fargo Center.
Ennis was asked, “Eddie Hearn said that you outsold Mike Tyson. How does that feel?” The boxer answered with a calm demeanor and an innocuous smile, “I don’t know, I feel normal. I don’t know. Like just another day for me. It really another day for me, you know.”
A Promising Journey Ahead
Jaron Ennis has been on a steady rise, capturing attention with his flawless record of 31 wins and no losses. His signing with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing earlier this year marked a pivotal moment in his career, with Hearn lauding the move as one of his greatest signings to date.
Ennis has set his sights on becoming the undisputed welterweight champion, aiming to collect all belts at 147 pounds before moving up to 154 pounds. His ambitions have garnered interest from fans and promoters alike, including Eddie Hearn, who is keen on securing high-profile matchups for the talented boxer.
The 31-0 boxer further added, “Like I said I’m excited man, and I’m blessed to be able to you know, be here, playing it at Wells Fargo Center.”
Eddie Hearn’s Ambitions
Eddie Hearn has expressed a desire to pit Ennis against pound-for-pound stalwart Terence Crawford, despite Crawford’s current focus on a potential bout with Canelo Alvarez at 168 pounds. Hearn believes that a matchup with Crawford could elevate Ennis to new heights in the sport.
“We’ve got to get him in the fights, we’ve got to get him undisputed at 147,” Hearn remarked. “I want to see him fight Terence Crawford. That’s a fight that’s been talked about, and Terence will only take that fight if it’s big enough. I’ll back Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis against anybody. What a joy to be guiding this man’s career.”
“I got one. So like I said, my main goal is I got one belt, I am go and collect the rest of these belts at 47 and then go do it at 54,” he said in the same interview.
The British promoter stated, “We’ve got to get him in the fights, we’ve got to get him undisputed at 147, he can move up. I want to see him fight Terence Crawford. That’s a fight that’s been talked about, and Terence will only take that fight if it’s big enough. I’ll back Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis against anybody. And what a joy to be guiding this man’s career.”
