ONTARIO, CA — A Star is Born in Golden Boy Promotions

Golden Boy Promotions’ latest prodigy, Joel Iriarte, has rapidly emerged as a standout talent within the boxing world. At just 21 years old, Iriarte has already made significant waves in the welterweight division. On Saturday, at Toyota Arena in Ontario, California, he delivered yet another electrifying performance, knocking out Yainel Alvarez in just two rounds. This victory marks Iriarte’s third professional fight, bringing his record to an impressive 3-0, with all wins by knockout.

A Giant in the Welterweight Division

Standing at 6-foot-1 and competing at 147 pounds, Iriarte’s physical presence is formidable. His power and skill in the ring have quickly set him apart as a blue-chip prospect. His latest bout showcased his ability to dominate opponents with both precision and power, leaving fans and analysts eager to see how far his talent can take him.

Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Prodigy

Iriarte was signed by Golden Boy Promotions in March, and Oscar De La Hoya himself has high expectations for the young fighter. De La Hoya, a former world champion and boxing legend, recognized Iriarte’s potential early on. “Joel has championship DNA,” De La Hoya stated in a release to World Boxing News. “He will have a remarkable career.”

A Legacy of Champions

De La Hoya’s confidence in Iriarte is not misplaced. The young boxer brings an extraordinary amateur background to the professional arena. With 17 national titles and three international gold medals, Iriarte has a pedigree that few can match. These accolades have provided him with a solid foundation, allowing for a seamless transition to the professional ranks.

Iriarte’s Statement of Intent

Backstage after his latest victory, Iriarte spoke with World Boxing News about his aspirations. He expressed his desire to become a future face of Golden Boy Promotions, joining the ranks of renowned fighters like Vergil Ortiz, Jaime Munguia, Ryan Garcia, Alexis Rocha, and Floyd ‘Kid Austin’ Schofield. “I’m ready to show the world [that I can follow in their footsteps],” Iriarte declared. “I’m ready to prove to everyone why I’m here, make big statements, and that I belong on the biggest stages.”

Learning and Growing with Each Fight

Despite his early success, Iriarte remains humble and focused on his development. “I’m 21 and 3-0 and happy to keep on learning and keep on growing,” he said. His approach to each fight is methodical, utilizing all the tools in his arsenal while maintaining a calm and composed mindset. Reflecting on his recent victory, Iriarte noted, “I was able to use all the tools in my toolbox and at the same time stay calm and listen to my corner. When I hurt him, I think my calm mindset even hurt him more.”

An Intense Schedule and High Aspirations

Since joining Golden Boy Promotions, Iriarte has maintained a rigorous fight schedule, competing three times in just four months. His ambition is to stay as active as possible, with plans to fight six more times in 2024. “I’d like to get back in the ring by August at the latest. I have a great team, and we’ll be ready to go as soon as my name is called again,” Iriarte stated.

The Path to Greatness

Iriarte’s rapid rise and relentless pursuit of excellence have positioned him as a future star in the sport. His combination of natural talent, hard work, and a strong support system within Golden Boy Promotions is setting the stage for a potentially legendary career. As he continues to develop and rack up victories, the boxing world is watching closely, anticipating the heights he might reach.

Future Goals and Dreams

Looking ahead, Iriarte’s goals are clear. He aims to not only compete on the biggest stages but to dominate them. His dream is to become a world champion and a household name in boxing, following in the footsteps of his idols and fellow Golden Boy fighters. “With 17 national titles and three international gold medals, that set me up to transition well into the pro game,” he said. “Those accolades definitely helped me, boxing is boxing regardless of whether it’s amateur or pro.”

The Road Ahead

As Iriarte continues his journey, the support from his team, fans, and Golden Boy Promotions will be crucial. His next steps will be critical in shaping his career, and with his talent and determination, the future looks incredibly bright. Iriarte’s story is just beginning, and if his early performances are any indication, the boxing world is in for something special.
