“A Person That Can’t Take The Loss”: Teofimo Lopez Jr.’s Father Scorches Devin Haney Over Ryan Garcia Lawsuit

In a scathing critique of Devin Haney’s ongoing lawsuit against Ryan Garcia, Teofimo Lopez Jr.’s father and trainer, Junior Lopez, has openly questioned Haney’s ability to accept defeat and move forward in his career. The controversy stems from Haney’s persistent legal action following his loss to Garcia in April, a defeat that has seemingly haunted the young boxer’s professional trajectory.

Since his three-knockdown loss to Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney, once seen as a rising star in the boxing world, has struggled to regain his footing. His subsequent fights, including a lackluster performance against Sandor Martin that yielded a modest $1.4 million payday, underscored his challenges in reclaiming his former stature. Amidst this backdrop, Haney’s decision to pursue legal action against Garcia has drawn criticism from Lopez Jr., who suggested that Haney’s inability to move past the loss may be detrimental to his career.

The American coach declared, “I think it’s just a person that can’t take the loss, like, you know, and just step ahead to the next fight. I think that it was just really bad, you know. And he just can’t wake up every day, you know, and see himself in the mirror, you know. ‘Cause nobody likes to lose, especially the way he lost. So, you know Devin is Devin, so Devin’s going to do what Devin does.”

Editor’s Perspective

The comments by Teofimo Lopez Jr.’s father highlight the psychological toll that a significant loss can have on a boxer’s career. While legal battles are not uncommon in the aftermath of contentious matches, Lopez Jr.’s remarks add a layer of introspection into the competitive mindset of professional athletes.
