Sparred Gervonta Davis, Devin Haney, and Shakur Stevenson, Former Teammate Reveals Who Is the Better Boxer Among the Trifecta

In every generation of boxing, a trifecta emerges—those fighters who stand head and shoulders above their peers. For this era, that trifecta comprises Gervonta Davis, Shakur Stevenson, and Devin Haney, though Haney’s recent setbacks have cast shadows on his standing. Offering a unique insider perspective, their former teammate and sparring partner, Robert Meriwether, has weighed in on who he believes reigns supreme among the trio.

Meriwether, a rising star under Mayweather Promotions, has already notched two victories in 2024 and aims for three more by year-end, as reported by Boxing Scene. When queried by Fight Hype about the standout performer among Davis, Stevenson, and Haney, Meriwether didn’t hesitate to share his insight.

“Against all the other guys, in my opinion, I got Tank. But I do feel like it’s a tough fight [among] all of them”.

“They have really good boxing skills, boxing IQ and they know what they’re doing in the ring”.

Insights from Robert Meriwether

“In my opinion, against all the other guys, I got Tank,” Meriwether affirmed, signaling his belief in Gervonta Davis‘ prowess. “But I do feel like it’s a tough fight [among] all of them,” he added, acknowledging the formidable skills each possesses. With Davis and Haney already having shared the ring in sparring sessions, and Stevenson expressing his desire for a showdown with Davis, the clash among them seems inevitable.

“On the other hand,” Meriwether continued, “Stevenson and Haney both have solid boxing skills, IQ, and ring awareness.” Despite this, he expressed doubts about their ability to withstand Davis’ relentless pressure. “We don’t know if Shakur or Devin [have] the pop to keep Tank off of [them],” Meriwether speculated, suggesting that Davis’ experience and killer instinct could prove decisive in hypothetical matchups.

“We don’t know if Shakur or Devin [have] the pop to keep Tank off of [them],” ‘King’ thinks Davis’ killer instinct is too much for Stevenson and Haney. Davis to the limits, but said, “for right now, [they are] not going to be able to”.

Meriwether’s observations echo sentiments within the boxing community, where Davis’ power and tenacity are seen as significant advantages. While Stevenson has shown respect towards Davis and Haney, and Haney has tried to prove himself against Davis, Meriwether’s assessment underscores the complexity and intrigue surrounding potential matchups.

As discussions continue about potential future bouts among Davis, Stevenson, and Haney, the boxing world remains captivated by the dynamics of their rivalry. Whether Davis’ knockout power will prevail, Stevenson’s technical finesse will triumph, or Haney will rebound from recent setbacks, remains a topic of intense speculation and debate.

The sport eagerly anticipates the resolution of these matchups, which promise to define the careers of these three exceptional fighters. Each brings unique strengths to the ring—Davis with his explosive style, Stevenson with his ring intelligence, and Haney with his technical skills—and their collisions in the future are sure to produce fireworks in the lightweight division.

He wrote, “Never in my life have I taken a beating like that by any fighter, good lord”.

Davis quickly responded in a now deleted tweet, “You know what’s up too”.
