Floyd Mayweather Branded “A Real Hater” for Shamelessly Promoting UFC Fight Night Over Gervonta Davis vs. Frank Martin PPV

In a surprising turn of events leading up to this weekend’s sports extravaganzas, Floyd Mayweather Jr. has ignited controversy once again, this time by promoting a UFC Fight Night scheduled on the same day as Gervonta Davis’ highly anticipated bout against Frank Martin. The boxing legend’s Instagram post featuring UFC fighters Alex Perez and Tatsuro Taira has sparked criticism and accusations of trying to overshadow Davis’ fight under the PBC-Amazon Prime PPV banner at the MGM Grand.

Mayweather’s Instagram Move: Strategic or Spiteful?

The Instagram post shared by Mayweather, displaying the UFC Fight Night poster with a prominent date of June 15, coinciding with Davis vs. Martin, has raised eyebrows across the sports community. Many speculate that Mayweather’s post was a deliberate attempt to divert attention from Davis’ fight, highlighting ongoing tensions between the two boxing personalities.

The feud between Mayweather and Davis has been brewing since Davis parted ways with Mayweather Promotions after his bout with Rolando Romero in 2022. What began as a mentor-mentee relationship soured over time, reportedly due to disagreements over training access and public comments about younger boxers by Mayweather Jr.

Boxing Kingdom’s tweet read, “Floyd Mayweather is now telling his 30 million followers to watch the UFC on Saturday night.”  Mayweather Jr. posted the message. And the response, “Bc he wants to troll tank since he’s fighting on the same day (they’re beefing again),” came.

Social Media Reactions: Fans Speak Out

The online community wasted no time in responding to Mayweather’s latest move, with tweets and comments reflecting a mix of disappointment and disbelief:

  • Boxing Kingdom’s tweet subtly pointed out Mayweather’s promotion of the UFC event on the same day as Davis’ fight, sparking speculation among fans.
  • A Twitter user labeled Mayweather as an “elite hater,” suggesting personal animosity as the driving force behind his actions.
  • Another tweet criticized Mayweather’s claims of promoting PBC boxers, implying a deeper resentment towards Davis’ success.
  • One follower questioned Mayweather’s sportsmanship, deeming his actions petty and unworthy of his stature in the sport.
  • Amidst the controversy, fans expressed concern over Mayweather’s motivations, wondering if his actions were truly in the spirit of promoting combat sports or driven by personal vendetta.

Following the uproar over his UFC promotion, speculation continues about Mayweather’s future in boxing. Despite rumors of potential comeback fights against Manny Pacquiao or Victor Ortiz, Mayweather remains absent from the ring since his contentious bout with John Gotti III.

Looking Forward: Resolving Differences?

While Mayweather’s actions have divided opinions, there is hope among fans that the rift between him and Davis might eventually be resolved. As two influential figures in boxing, their reconciliation could potentially benefit the sport by redirecting focus from personal disputes back to the athletes’ performances in the ring.
