Christian Mbili told BoxingScene that Saul Canelo Alvarez’s title defense against Jaime Munguia is an “easy fight.”

Canelo will fight fellow Mexican Munguia at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on May 4 in celebration of Cinco de Mayo.

“I think Munguia has to work harder,” Mbili said of Munguia’s response to Canelo. – He needs to be very good at guarding, he needs to stay focused and keep his head moving throughout the fight. I hope he has good fitness. However, that was all he could do.

Canelo (60-2-2, 39 KOs) will make his fourth consecutive belt defense against Munguia (43-0, 34 KOs), the former 154-pound champion vying for a third Super Middleweight championship.

Canelo defeated Jermall Charlo by unanimous decision in Las Vegas last September. Munguia stepped into the boxing ring in January, claiming a ninth round bout against John Ryder.

“His chin is not very big,” Mbili added of Munguia. – He doesn’t like pressure, I don’t think he likes to beat. I think Canelo can score when he wants to, but I think Canelo will have a hard time stopping any fighter. Looking at his last three matches, he had a lot of problems.

– So I don’t know if Canelo can stop him because he’s going down. I think this is a very easy fight for Canelo. He is the better hero. Take him down. But if Canelo doesn’t knock him down, this will be a very easy win.

Mbili (26-0, 22 KOs) is among the four winners of all of Canelo’s title fights. The Frenchman will face England’s Mark Heffron on May 25 in Shawinigan, Canada.

Ashley’s Thoughts:

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s plan to fight Jaime Munguia is an easy one, according to Christian Mbili. The fight, scheduled for May 4 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, marks Cinco de Mayo and brings together two Mexican boxing talents. Mbili’s assessment suggests that Munguia will put up a tough fight against the experienced Canelo, with strong defensive skills and a keen eye for opportunity. With Canelo having an impressive record and completing a string of successful title defenses, Mbili believes Munguia’s chances of winning are slim. However, while Mbili is confident in Canelo’s abilities, he also knows that boxing is unpredictable, leaving room for surprises in the ring.
