Joe Rogan Lambasts Referee Harvey Dock for Missed Calls in Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney Bout

In a heated segment on the Joe Rogan Experience, Joe Rogan and Max Holloway dissected the controversial Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney fight, shedding light on the contentious refereeing by Harvey Dock. The discussion, fueled by frustration and incredulity, highlighted key moments where Dock’s decisions arguably altered the course of the bout.

“There was some bad refereeing in that fight too, because there were 2 knockdowns.” Max Holloway, , “Yeah two drops and it didn’t count. That was crazy.” Rogan continued “Real bad, those were two legitimate knockdowns. In a round he knocked him down once. So he knocked him down three times in that round.”

“Wouldn’t that like been a TKO already.”
“I don’t know if they had a 3 knockdown rule.”

“It’s like, ‘time, you stop holding and you stop holding, fight!’ It’s like, dude, you just gave him like 15-20 seconds of a rest. You stopped Ryan’s momentum to finish him,” Johnson lamented. This critique echoes sentiments from fans and Garcia himself, who argued that the referee’s interference in the seventh round cost him a potential knockout victory. Even Patrick Bet David called out the referee on his twitter and said, “This referee must have his money on Haney.”

Rogan wasted no time in condemning Dock’s officiating, pointing out two crucial knockdowns that went unnoticed, potentially tilting the scales in Haney’s favor. Holloway echoed Rogan’s sentiments, expressing disbelief at the oversight and emphasizing the significance of the missed opportunities for Garcia. The intensity of their criticism underscored the gravity of Dock’s errors, prompting scrutiny from fans and fellow fighters alike.

The implications of Dock’s questionable calls extend beyond mere oversight, raising concerns about fairness and integrity within the sport. Stephen A. Smith and Patrick Bet-David joined the chorus of disapproval on social media, amplifying the outcry against Dock’s handling of the fight.

Rogan and Holloway’s scrutiny of Dock’s performance highlights broader issues within boxing, including the consistency and clarity of officiating standards. The lack of a definitive ruling on certain aspects of the fight, such as the three-knockdown rule, further muddied the waters, leaving room for interpretation and controversy.

Even luminaries from the MMA world, like Demetrious Johnson, weighed in on Dock’s performance, decrying his decisions as detrimental to Garcia’s momentum and ultimately impacting the outcome of the fight. Johnson’s criticism, echoed by fans and pundits alike, underscores the widespread dissatisfaction with Dock’s refereeing.

The fallout from Dock’s handling of the Garcia vs. Haney bout raises questions about accountability and reform within the sport. As the scrutiny intensifies and voices of dissent grow louder, Dock finds himself at the center of a storm of controversy, facing scrutiny from all corners of the combat sports world.
