Former undisputed super welterweight world champion Jermell Charlo (35-2-1, 19 KOs) will challenge current champion Israil Madrimov (10-0-1, 7 KOs) during the WBA hiatus. He claimed his rights as a champion.

Promoter Tom Brown submitted a letter of intent to the WBA stating that Charlo was interested in the fight.

Charlo hasn’t lost a lopsided point loss to Canelo Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs) for Alvarez’s undisputed 168-pound title at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas last September. is not boxing.

BoxingScene previously reported that Terrence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) and champion Madrimov have begun negotiations for a scheduled bout tentatively scheduled for August 3 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. I found out what I did.

The event will introduce Turki Alalcik, the influential chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, to the U.S. market. Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing would be in charge of the promotion.

Crawford’s hopes of securing his title as a four-division world champion will be tested by Charlo, who has sent a letter directly to the WBA asserting his rights as a suspended champion.

“I am pleased to announce that I am hereby requesting that he replace former undisputed super welterweight champion Jermell Charlo and reinstate him as the 154-pound WBA super welterweight champion,” Brown said in Dan. He wrote this in a letter he received from Raphael.

“Jermell is ready to defend his WBA title against WBA Champion Israil Madrimov. Thank you for your attention and consideration.”

WBA president Gilberto Mendoza Jr. made it clear to Rafael that he wanted to order Madrimov to defend his newly won title against Charlo. However, Madrimov has left open the option of paying Charlo a severance package to wait for a title fight, and a source familiar with the situation told Boxing Scene that efforts to keep a title fight between Madrimov and Crawford “will be fine. ” he said.

Crawford has yet to fight since becoming the undisputed welterweight champion by stopping Errol Spence Jr. (28-1, 22 KOs) in nine rounds in Las Vegas last year. Crawford was expected to face Spence again, but he has since announced that he will move up in weight and fight for the 154-pound world title. Because of Crawford’s WBO status, he has been named the mandatory challenger to Sebastián Fundora, who defeated Tim Tzu last month to win the WBO title in addition to the vacant WBC title.

Charlo previously had all the marbles that weighed 154 pounds. However, after losing to Canelo, he decided to vacate the IBF, WBC, and WBA world titles. With the opening bell for his fight with Canelo, the WBO elevated Tim Tzu from interim status to official WBO World Champion status.

Madrimov became the WBA titleholder last month with a brutal defeat to Magomed Kurbanov in the fifth round (25-1, 13 KOs) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
